Silver Paste

Just wondering if anybody knows temperature wise what kind of difference ASX gives you versus the stuff included in the packaging. I've used both, but never on the same CPU, so I don't know what I'm paying extra for. (1-2deg or more savings?)

Usually a few degrees difference, and more depending on the heatsink.

I actually tried this over the normal white paste and didn't really find that much of a change, I was a bit displeased to be honest.

Ive used them all, and it turned out (for me) That the stock thermal pads on both the AMD/Intel heatsinks are perfectly fine. I honestly believe all that talk is hype.

I don't want to get tons of responses telling me I did somthing wrong, so just take my response with a grain of salt if you dont believe me, but:

Thermal pastes/grease are stated to "not be a permenant solution" by AMD, and the thermal pad is your best option.

Ive used many "silver" product pastes that resulted in higher temps then the stock unit with its stock pad. I know how to apply the stuff too.

So im going to go ahead and say you may actually increase your temps.

Thermal pad should be fine for you, Winchesters especially run cool (also Venice as well). If you're planning on aftermarket just go ahead and get some arctic silver paste - pads tend to clog up the heatsink (you don't want that on your beautiful new heatsink do ya ).

Actually, everyone's wrong. Silver compounds aren't the best. The best is actually Nanotherm PCM+, there was a big hype about it a few years ago saying how great it was, but it died when there were reports that it corroded your heatsink - they fixed that problem now by the way.
