I'd like to see them test more fans, as those results could have been cherry picked. It did look interesting though.

Dang! That video is loud. The Nexus Beamair does something similar, but it reduces fan output. I wonder if the Silverstone does the same.

The fan apparently has FDB - probably the same OEM as the one that makes S-Flexes and TR-FDB's.

I assume it would be better for heatsinks since more air is concentrated into the heatsink rather than air going in other directions.

I can see it as a spot fan . . for me. Love to have one shooting from the computer to keep me cool.

If you really want 30 of them, you could probably get Nidec to sell you a batch.

I will ask my broker about this.

Last time this happened in the not so distant past I wound up with six GTX480 SC editions.

your better off with a covered shroud.

The shaper in front still doesnt make your dead spot any smaller.
A covered shroud will, and will force the air straight anyhow.

If you can get a batch, let us know. Some of us will want to go in on it with you. A fan or two here and there can add up.

Isn't Silverstone going to offer stator fan grills soon so that you can make any fan produce this sort of airflow?

my friend iandh was starting a project onn it until we realized we wanted turbulance in fronnt of the fan.

its the turbulance that increases heat transfer.

so straightenig ur air flow and minimizing turbulannce is only good when ur in a winnd tunnel.

remember ur fan is right smack front of the sink fins... not 1 feet away from it.

Yeah...for some reason I knew when I first saw this thread "i'll wait to see what aigo says, something tells me this isn't a good idea". ;p

Was looking at that fan and thinking the only thing I'd want that for would be sticking on my desk at work on those hot days!

While not ideal for most situations, these things could be decent for large, negative-pressure cases where some areas get starved of fresh intake air. My P182 was a good example - CPU temps were ok (at best), but the graphics card temps were horrible. The problem? A relatively low CFM, quiet fan that I placed in the middle rack was the only thing feeding the graphics card any air at all, and even then barely any made it all the way there (most ended up going right out the top exhaust). Then again, a couple of fan shrouds linked together and a relatively high static pressure fan should do the same thing.

It seems that they would be relatively poor for exhaust fans (because who cares where the exhausted air goes, as long as it's out) and not all that useful as heatsink / radiator fans (since the air is already being directed through the fins).

The real test is the "on heatsink" tests though. For blowholes directed at hotspots a "collimated" airflow is very desirable. Of course the smoke tests are essentially "free air" tests. With the slightest backpressure present one has to wonder if such flow is maintained.

Even so it's a cheap fan say in comparison to a lens that cost $500,000 or something equally absurd.
