Silverstone TJ08 Owners

Hi, I built my PC using a Silverstone TJ08 case because it seemed to be the slickest micro ATX case around and offered amazing cooling performance.

The two metal 3.5" drive bay covers are held in by screws which protrude up into the drive cage and prevent inserting a hard drive all the way. You can insert it up until it hits the screw (which I am currently doing), but this leaves a good portion of the HDD protruding at the back, and you can only use 1 screw on each side to secure the drive. I already have another HDD installed underneath the cage.

Can any TJ08 owners explain this please?

Most Silverstone cases have more or less minor design flaws in the PC and/or general mechanical functionality areas - a screw is a screw, proper length or type be damned. If a shorter screw (or a different type of screw like a flat head) will solve your problem, go to your well-stocked, local hardware store and get some. IOW, if you want a pretty box sitting on your desk, buy a Silverstone case - if you actually want to build a fully functional PC w/o having to come up with some workarounds, then something like the Evercase http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=CA-3505B will do better by you while saving you mucho bucks.

. Perhaps if you actually use the lower 3.5" floppy bay for something like a flash card reader, that will obviate the problem.

IAC, be sure you make Silverstone aware of the problem. Perhaps they'll fix it for the next round of production. It also looks like the lowest HDD mounting ears may be too short to mount a HDD in the proper (PCB down) orientation too (or if it can be mounted properly, there will be no room above it for air flow). Is that the case? Air circulation around a drive? Who needs it?.. <BSEG>

I've never used that case, but I'm wondering if the screws in question can be backed out part way, then used to mount the front end of the hdd, or if they can be cut short to clear...
