SIM City 5 - Actual Strategy Discussion

My guess, some of this is bugs, some of this is that you actually need to REALLY plan if you want your city to be really sustainable.

Thankfully I have my mega bucks city that will gift money over (hopefully sometime in this year, the gifting is so broken, gifted myself 5m to a new city last night and it still hasn't showed up yet shows being taken from my wallet)

I've found that the gift processes much faster if you remain in the city that is giving it until it's complete. Might have just been server lag but I did a 1m gift and it never showed up until I played the gifting city for an hour or so.

So I left my city going while I went to sleep. I woke up to Detroit. Hundreds of criminals running around and abandoned city everywhere. I'm thinking I should just bulldoze the whole thing and keep the 1.5 million I had left and start over. I was bleeding money like crazy from all the people fleeing the carnage!

2 large cities, both with populations 260k+. 1 is high education/wealth - university and high-tech industry. The other medium education/wealth - a tourist city making big bucks on events.

2 small cities, basically my dumps. Supplying power, water, sewage and trash collection. Pops in 30-40k.

Out of nowhere my power and water goes out in my tourist city. I check how much I'm buying and it's only half of what is available. Same goes for water. Supply is good in my 2 small cities but for some reason it's not coming over. 1 of my small cities has 1 coal and 1 oil and has excess of like 500, but my big city will only buy 78 or so of it? Some sort of bug I'm guessing. I have plenty of money to pay for it, can't figure it out.. Check my other high pop city and it's having the same bug.

Can't get it working, so eventually build local power and water. I guess residents got upset due to these problems, crime rates rise, now cops/firefighters are causing traffic jams all over persuing criminals and holding up entire streets to put out a fire. Sirens never stop. Game audio now keeps cutting out until I restart it. Time of day disappears or just stops as if I paused it when I did not.

Went on for about an hour last night and was still happening this morning.

Yep - I have heard about this bug, the town will keep reporting that you have no water even though you have/ you have the potential to purchase more. (I don't think there is a fix at the moment)

Yes, I have made the same experience. My cities just couldn't keep up satisfying demand although there was plenty of supply within the region. No fun to watch it fall apart.

I uninstalled the game yesterday.

I have just figured I will build one city until the region sync is fixed and once that is done I will build my cities off of each other. I lost 2 cities already because of trade bugs/region syncing so I will just keep my one, amass hopefully a billion simolean and then build the rest of my cities.

I tried that at first but quickly found myself bored, couldn't progress much with such limited space.

I'm at that point in my city where I think one well placed disaster will completely collapse my economy

I've built 2 cities on my own and couldn't really get past 100,000 pop. And in my empty 16 city plot, no one else has come to join. Sad.

The game filtering is broke right now. It only seems to show regions that are full

Does the type (density) of the road effect water deliver range?

The only way to go from high density roads to boulevards is to destroy the buildings on either side of the road?

Someone posted this in the other thread I think, or I stumbled across it in a drunken stupor. I guess you can get a massive city but you need to really focus on manipulating the very poor traffic flow in the game.

I love how the guy is talking about some of the major bugs and drops lines like "this is such a major deal that I'm sure they will have it patched by the time you watch this video"

Alright, I've played sim city 4 a good 15 hours (with no internet connection at that........) and there are certain aspects of sim city 5 that I really like.

Overall I think sim city 5 has more potential, but I really REALLY wish they would get these bugs worked out.

The 7 city map has 7 connected cities, I am pretty sure any map with less than 7 has all of them connected.
