Isn't there bigger cities you can make?

I was going to pre order on amazon....is the limited good? Or are those little extras worth it for the deluxe?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007FTE2VW...CZ0R49SSJ36DW&

I assume this will load into origin? Similar to steam?

Sadly no. This is the biggest cities are currently. They haven't said anything about allowing larger ones from what I've seen.

The game will require Origin regardless of how you buy it. So yeah if you buy a retail box you just punch the key in and it is on your account, just like Steamworks games.

I'm waiting to see the final game before i jump on it.

I'm hoping there will be larger areas to build on than the beta.

Yup, and I'm also waiting to see if they keep their promise with the modding community and release a BAT. Now that it's online only I don't know how it's going to work, but if the game can't be modded it will get old for me quick. And not just building color modifications like societies had.

Thanks, $20 promo isn't a bad offer ...

hmmm I can't remember if I applied for the beta or not but I'll check it out later. Download seemed pretty huge though. How long is the beta for?

Umm it said the 28th so either it already ended or will end tonight midnight

I see there's multiple new threads popping up anticipating the midnight release (9pm on the west coast ) so I figured I'd post in the main thread.

After playing in the beta and watching the Let's All Be Mayor videos, I can honestly say I'm still psyched to play the final version and don't regret pre-ordering. I can however completely understand the criticism this game is receiving concerning the smaller map sizes and constant internet connection requirement.

We've already seen the server's go down on multiple days during the "Let's All Be Mayor's" live video event. I think it would be naive to believe we won't experience some form of inconvenience with the servers not only on launch day but also somewhere down the line.

When it comes to the smaller map sizes this is more of a personal preference. While I'd love to have larger maps, from what I've played in the beta designing multiple "cities" each with their own specialization should at least quell the desire for more room. For now. lol

Also despite the title of this thread, this is not SimCity 5. It's SimCity. Not a sequel to the 4th installment but instead a relaunch of the franchise. Those who are happy with the direction this game is going will purchase it and enjoy it. And that's that.

I like the series and I feel like I'm getting excited over this game but I think I will wait a bit and see how it goes. Plus paying $60 or $80 is a bit much for something that is somewhat uncertain. I don't really have a problem with smaller maps (though it depends how small they are). Lets see how this online component of this game turns out.

EA/Maxis also has a a black eye from not supporting SC4 very well. There were some serious bugs that they never patched, and they EOL'd the entire franchise rather quickly after their stupid expansions didn't sell well.

What's all this I'm seeing about "required online" content?

Wyndru mentioned "required online collaboration with neighboring cities" in another thread.

Is that serious? Is it possible to play this if my cable modem suddenly decided to hang itself in the nearby nest of wires?

Yup. The game uses a special kind of DRM that requires your PC to be constantly connected to the internet, and if you get disconnected, you will be booted out of the game (regardless of whether you're playing with other people or not).

Well I just bought it. I need something to play. Since I got a coupon for $20 off my next game I figured it's not to bad. I don't feel like waiting months to save a few bucks either.

Yeah I'm in a similar situation. I just bought a graphics card but cannot find any modern game to play. This new Sim City seems nice but I need to wait a bit before getting it. One thing that seems weird is, if I'm not mistaken, the need for always on internet connection with this game. I sort of understand but maybe they should have given the option to not have "live" cities.

I remember 7 or 8 years ago when there were so many good games to choose from. Maybe its because I'm not following the gaming scene but its hard to find a good game nowadays. The graphics might look pretty but the actual game play is what makes a game good.

The small city size is just stupid and a major turn off. Great to see them pandering to the lowest common denominator. How about having larger maps and just warning people with shitty pcs that try to play these maps that their performance will be degraded.

Nah, that makes too much sense. Instead lets make postage stamp sized maps for everyone. Yay...

This. The game will be fun for awhile and then I have a feeling the small city size will really kill my interest. It doesn't help that I strongly suspect that EA will release a "big cities" DLC. I don't feel like getting screwed by EA.

The always online DRM put the final nail in the coffin though. In SC4, I really enjoyed saving my city and then trying something drastic. Not sure I like the "permadeath" idea and I really don't want my gameplay experience to be dependent upon EA's servers and my often-less-than-reliable internet.

Give me bigger cities for free and let me save and play locally and I'll buy it.

Yes it is. The game selection that qualifies for the offer is limited quite a bit.

I think it's a performance thing. Totalbiscut said that with his PC (Which I assume is top tier) ran into ~18FPS when at ground level. The devs said that they're looking into larger areas but only if the integrity of the simulation is kept intact and preformance is decent.

Anybody on the west coast have this active yet? I'm guessing they are releasing it at 12am local time for respective regions/timezones?
