A LOT of people are actually playing and having fun. If anything it's the pirates and anti DRM people who see an oportunity don't even own the game who are doing a lot of complaining and lying. They do it with every single game.
Nonsense. What do habitual pirates care? They don't suffer from any of this stuff, unlike your paying customers. Us who might want to buy the game, on the other hand...

Has this DRM given the SimCity players anything positive? No. Its very purpose is customer hostility. Planned obsolescence, preventing user mods, guaranteeing that no customer's eyeballs can avoid a single BUY MORE DLC! popup EA sees fit to throw at them in the future.

Indeed, this is a good opportunity to point out the quality of EA's treatment of their customers. I don't own the game, because this is not how I expect to be treated when I do own a game. I could argue no one else owns the game either. They give EA money, hope for the best, and EA may then graciously allow them to play or not.

I don't complain about games with no problems. For instance, the copy of Alan Wake I recently acquired from GoG is running just fine, and Remedy Entertainment deserves every cent they got. I note they did not sabotage their single player game by artificially tying it to a network service, did not utterly fuck up the launch, did not lie to customers about availability of refunds, etc.

I got in this morning, ~5:30-7:00AM EST. NA East 2. I'd like to see one of you claim that I'm an EA shill.

Any interest in an AT region?

No one is saying that "nobody" can connect, or that anyone who has something positive to say is an EA shill.

It's like I've said, numerous times, spend 5 minutes on the EA forums and these people are blatantly obvious.

I have far more issues with these obvious EA employees spreading misinformation than I do about the server outage itself.

The problem in my mind is not someone saying that they're able to play successfully. It's when that person then dismisses other's complaints. The attitude that they're able to connect and so anybody else who is having problems is a liar or a pirate. That is what is so obnoxious. Those are the company shills.

I've decided to shelf this game for a month. After playing for 13 hours, I got tired of rebuilding my cities numerous times. Maybe when I come back to it the issues will be resolved. Wishful thinking I know.

Here is an interesting Forbes article about how games need a industry standardized return policy for unplayable games:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonev...rn-policy-for-defective-and-unplayable-games/

And it looks like they have already started a petition:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe...te-servers-and-drm-function-properly/nMy1wrtC

Only 135 people out of 100k so far though, it's early but I would have expected more already. I guess people will complain on forums but signing up on a whitehouse.gov site and signing a petition is a different story. It will be interesting to see how many actually sign.

I'd be interested. I'm working a double shift today though so probably won't get to play "Do the servers work?" until about 8PM tonight. I'm Voxx99 on Origin.

I played today from around 11 to 13 on the EU West 1 server since I work from home. Then waited till around 15:00 when my GF comes home to play with her. And thats 4 hours and 45mins since. No sign of working.

Yesterday was also a very flacky experience.

So I doubt anyone really gonna play over the weekend.

So, is anyone other than our 3-4 "very special" members able to connect to ANY of the north american servers?

I couldn't connect an hour ago. Connected just fine right now. It seems completely hit or miss. The first 2-3 days I couldn't get in while trying for hours each day. Late yesterday I played fairly well (only 1 disconnection) for a few hours. Today I just got in after not being able to get in earlier ("Network error").

Tonight I'm going to send a short note to the editor of each of these articles about the blatantly obvious EA shills going around posting on all the forums.

It's one thing to unintentionally botch the game, it's quite another to pay people to specifically spread misinformation in an attempt to cover it all up.

What I dont understand. If EA bans your account which then means any legally owned games you have are then unuseable. How is that not theft?

No idea. I'm guessing they have a very well-worded license that you agree to which basically says you don't own anything you buy on origin.

I understand their point, and why they have to do that, but when they realize games that are 95% unplayable then it is totally unacceptable.

Steam has the same policy.... The huge difference is that steam has never released a game that was this botched.

The ban was what would have resulted had the customer in that chat session successfully disputed or reversed the cc charge essentially not paying for the game.

Aside from that, companies can and do ban accounts for other reasons, like botting, gold selling and other forms of cheating.

Theft is only when you "steal" IP from corporations, not the other way around... :whiste:

I'm pretty sure you've informed everyone on this forum about the people being paid by EA to post on forums.. I'm not sure why you keep beating that one into the ground though.

But that's not "always on DRM". It's odd account management highlighted by this EA crapfest. It's been pointed out before in this thread it's the same way with Steam, it's just never been to this level. EA has screwed up in a massive way and are compounding it by banning people complaining... of course I could be a paid EA shrill, so what do I know?

I'm confused (or missing something here)...they aren't banning people simply complaining...they said his account would be banned if he succesfully reversed the CC charge. That basically means he would be getting his money back from the CC company, and he would still have his copy of the game. Why wouldn't they ban him?

Oh, I was missing a detail, the article said they would ban the origin account, not just SimCity, which would stop them from accessing any of their purchased games. I don't see how they can legally do this. I think Fox pulled that out of their asses. I'm sure there is a way origin can just remove rights to an individual game.

I wonder if you purchased with a credit card if you can dispute the charges with the CC company since the game may be 'defective' for some?

Because it pisses me off that I paid $80 for a game that is COMPLETELY botched, and rather than dedicate all of their resources towards fixing they game they're instead paying people to go around and post that "all is fine, just be patient, it works great for me, don't post negative reviews!"

It's the principle of the issue. I'm much more pissed about the EA shills being paid to spread misinformation than I am about servers being down.

I'm sure...some of the card companies I use have an online reversal, where they just ask you to type in the reason, and you submit it. Your money is refunded right back into your card.

I did this once when I had to cancel a Hotel room and they wouldn't give me my money back because of some policy, I had the money immediately returned from me and that was the end of it. I did get a letter from the hotel later that said I was no longer welcome there any longer, but I've been back under a different credit card so it didn't really matter.

I'm up for an AT region. Origin user name is D3vilD0gs. I've been playing reliably on europe east 2, but will give another server a try to join a good region.
