Personally, the people that say some of the games are still $60 is missing the point that the prices have been held up and not dropped as is more normal with games that have been out for a while.

Price increases are normal. Publishers costs go up, so therefore those costs get passed to the consumer. Though they still must give us a reason for buying the game to keep their demand up. In my case, I would gladly pay 80 dollars for a fully equipped game that knocks my socks off, and gives me hours of game play for a good solid 4-6 months. Though I might be in the minority on how much I'm willing to pay for the game, so what they do is find a good medium pricing point to entice a larger part of the market, but that means their budgets for costs will be constrained for that 60 dollar pricing point. Therefore they'll offer DLC and add-ons to try to grab the consumers like me.

This is what I don't like about DLC. They'll market their add-ons and DLC as if you actually need it to continue playing the game as the creators intended. If that was your intentions anyway, why not price it higher in the first place and sell it as a whole? It's nothing more than string tactics and there is a very fine-line between an add-on and a functioning component of the game. There is no bureaucracy in-place to help decipher which-from-which, and we're stuck right back where we began- a choice not to buy it. Add-ons should not dictate if you can continue playing the game the way you want, or how you play with other people.

Then they would sell less of it and where would the fun be for them then?

Adding so much dlc for money is a issue in a bit it looks like and while expansions are ok nickle and diming of basic stuff is something I stay away from and thankfully only certain games have this issue as most still pop out decent updates for free as they provide normal support.

About a year ago, most retailers had sim city 4 deluxe in their budget bin for $5. Chances are they are probably still floating around. I got mine at an office depot.

Only game I didn't own that they were offering for free was Medal of Honor Warfighter. Honestly, I would rather have had an option to upgrade my normal edition of Simcity to the deluxe edition lol. But hey, free is free.

Apparently some people were able to get a different game. You can try to talk to CS

Not a "blind supporter" but I have a hard time believing that any kind of sale is a bad thing. :hmm:

It's insulting and devalues the reparations EA made to customers who lost countless hours trying to connect to servers and having their built up cities lost or rolled back.

If you don't see why it's insulting to have a company say ok I'm sorry we screwed up, here's a ~$50 game, just to have them all go on sale the next day for less than half price... Well.. I don't know how to make it more clear to you.

yes, I was thinking that as well. It is all good to offer free games to people to cover the bad pr of a game while saying "here is a $60 game as the original game failed on release", but to then go and release those same games for 1/2 price is a sad joke.

Now it appears, instead of paying $60 and getting to games, one of which is simcity and still requiring fixes and updates, a person could have gone the refund path, got one of the "free" games (if they did not have it) and then purchased another game for the same money. Getting two games you wanted, just a "win" for EA.

I wonder how much of this has lead to the EA CEO leaving, by "mutual agreement", which for those that read between the lines, means "we want you out, go quietly and we will pay out your contract and all bonuses". http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2308363

sale = good.

simcity customer + free $50/60 game ( for bad launch) + sale (devaluing of free game) = bad PR + short changed sim city customer + LOLs (from people looking in).

Who cares. I got $20 off Simcity so it was 39.99. DS3 even on sale means I only paid 9.99 for Simcity. Off sale it means I would be making money off the deal. Some of you just love to bitch and moan regardless of any compensation you're given. I never got a free game from Blizzard for their Diablo 3 fiasco. Everyone still slobbers on Blizzards wang.

How did you get the 20 dollar discount? Not that there should be anything to complain about with EA trying to make amends, but it doesn't look like every one got the same deal as you did.

Most got this by pre-ordering on Amazon. They had the $20 credit for at least a month leading up to release.
