Or some testing of usability for new players starting out and monitoring any frustrating non intuitive game play systems. I too thought the city sizes were small, but with the region stuff you can have more useable room for your metropolis when you can outsource power creation to a whole different region. Should make for some interesting specialized cities.

Have continued to follow this one for awhile and even with the constant need to be online and the smaller "Simtown" like land areas, I'm still really looking forward to this one and hope to get a beta spot.

Here's a link to the game manual that was posted online originally on EA.com before it was taken down: http://issuu.com/tart11/docs/simcity_manual/1

One of the devs commented that the solar panels below actually work to supply power to those homes that have them during the day reducing the demand from your power plants during that time. Residents with a high education level are more prone to having the panels on their homes.

One thing that I'm not too thrilled with is the amount of dead space between buildings. In a suburban residential area it's not really an issue but to have empty grass land lots between skyscrapers or even high rise buildings, is a let down. Apparently you can manually fill them in with plaza tiles however.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous though I wonder what performance will be like. SimCity 4 was notorious for slowing down, especially with bigger cities. Also the "Fancy Suites" hotel in the second picture from the bottom is the Fairmont Royal York.

I still can't get over the DRM and cloud saves thing though. It's certainly not ideal and I'll likely pass until it inevitably gets patched out.

So day 1 cracks is what you'll be waiting for. >_>

As much as I loved SimCity 2000, everything after that has really been a let down. I will probably be grabbing this though.

Same here, although I doubt they will ever patch it out, so I'll probably end up passing on this, unless it ends up on a bargain sale for $5 and is F2P. SimCity and Diablo2 are the 2 games I play on my laptop when there is no internet available (traveling).

It doesn't bother me though, I still regularly play SC4, and with all of the mods available it is still an amazing game that I never get bored of.

i could never get SC4 to work well on my machine.

SC5 looks great i like how the water and electricity fallows the road. i think that is great. the small size is annoying but not a game killer.

i really dislike the cloud save though.

You guys do realize that it's likely that all games on the new generation of systems are going to require a full-time internet connection as well as cloud saves?

Does it suck? Yup, but it's an eventuality that everyone is either going to have to deal with or stop gaming.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time getting over this. I can launch up Sim City 4 right now and play it. After the same timespan has passed for Sim City 5, will I be able to do this without an error such as, "Cannot connect to authentication server"?

I'm completely appose to it. If I couldn't go back to my old games today as people of today probably wont be able to go back to their old games, then you're forced to buy Sim City #32 and all of its DLC so that you can have a power plant in your city instead of a wind mill. (or not play at all because servers are shut down for old versions)

In conclusion, it's all bullshit. But then it may not even happen like this, it's speculation as well.

You mean I don't I have to waste precious mbs on my 1TB hard drive for a game that I played for hours?!?! Terrific! These guys are brilliant, absolutely brilliant. They're doing all this for my benefit. God bless them.

I am really looking forward to this game. Thanks for posting the screenshots and other information.

I noticed that on some of the screenshots, there is grass separating the main road from the driveways and parking lots. You can even see a taxi cab driving over the grass in one image. I hope this gets fixed before release.

Throw in small tiles and neighbor dependency and it's even more crippled.

Sad, Sim City is/was one of my all time favorites . . . still play SC4.

.

Same shared disappointment. I can see where they're trying to take this game though, and I can see it as a success. However the veterans of the game are drying up, and they're targeting a younger audience. The dynasty of the old Sim City is over . I guess I have to grow up now.
