I was interested in this game until I read about the persistent internet connection BS and having to log into a server. I'm not an uber anti-DRM crusader...but this is ridiculous. Having a queue, no matter for how long or how often, is absurd to play single player. It's beyond ridiculous. I'm not even going to bitch about the obvious money grab regarding DLC content they are compounding this persistent online bullshit with.

I will not support companies that do this. I'm pleased to see the universally critical / bad reviews of this game. I honestly hope EA and any other development studio that goes this route fails. I would feel bad for anyone who gets laid off, but as a gamer this direction is full of fail.

Who knows, maybe they'll add fast speed (the setting they apparently just removed in order to lighten the load on their servers) back in for a mere $9.99

No that would never happen.

On an administrative note, we've had a number of complaints about pcslookout in this thread. Virtually all of those complaints are baseless. However we do agree that he is at times trolling, and doing so in a rather blatant manner; this is not something we can allow. As such pcslookout will no longer be posting in this thread.

Getting rid of ground pollution is the hard mode for this game. Also replenishing the water table

I don't know if it is true or not. But I read on another forum someone said you can put your water tower right next to your water processing plant and you'll never run out of water because the water that comes out is clean. I can't verify if that is true or not (don't have the game yet).

it sounds like a great game, for the tens of users who are able to actually play it.

not really, the artifically small play area along with the forced use of regions is a major drawback; the bullshit online crap is just icing on that cake.

I played like 12 hours today. The game is freaking addicting. The more I play the more I discover. It's actually pretty deep. I'm getting really into the exporting business with processors. Eventually they will go in TV's and things I make.

I actually like that cheetah speed was taken out. I like the pace it makes you play at. You think more. The small maps make you think more too.

So, I just finished playing for the night and I could have sworn I was on cheetah speed pretty much the entire time. What comes after llama (speed level 2) if not cheetah? Maybe the europe east 2 didn't have it removed?

Come on... You gotta try pretty hard to make a reduction in features out to be a good thing.

IGN didn't get in before the rush. There a trick to use that even they didn't do.

Why should you have to use a trick to get your game to run if it's the smoothest release ever?

Edit: I see you will not be replying to this.

I feel bad for the on the ground team. The Maxis devs probably haven't seen their families for days thanks to the greed of EA execs.

I'd like to meet the program manager that put this into production without load testing the servers though.

Yep. Feel sorry for the people at Maxis. But why does EA put themselves in the spotlight time and again? I mean SWTOR, ME3 and now this. They're literally putting themselves out there open to get their arses kicked. Stupid fcking DRM and stupid fcking pirates. This is like chemotherapy without curing anything and handing out only side effects. Btw, and can EA save some face by taking off the DRM requirement or is it coded into the game and impossible to remove? Posted from Anandtech.com App for Android

I wonder just how much is being done on server-side... the time taken to send the info to the server have it process it and return it back would take longer than to do it locally.

Also this makes Spore's release look like a walk in the park LOL

I bet we see an offline mode hack sooner than later. Would put even more egg on EA's face.

I was able to play mid morning on release day... then again mid morning the day after... played for about 3-4 hours both times. Did have a city rolled back/disappear after starting to see server connection lost during the game on the 2nd day.

Even tho there was that msg saying connection was lost and trying to reestablish connection I was able to continue doing things in my city and playing along seemingly like normal, but when I left that city and tried to come back it had never stored my city data.

So I agree there will be a 3rd party violation of TOS,etc, etc crack coming out that will allow offline play... I was able to play fine it just didnt save at the end. So it seems to me the majority of the processing is done local but it stores the results/data points on EA side.... So the crack makers/genius guys need to redirect the game data storage/retreival to the local machine (I am not a code monkey or anything I'm just making guesses here... )

Anyway... The time I was able to play and it saved my progress properly I enjoyed the game and was having fun.

Maxis' Creation / Game play itself - 8/10
EA's involvement and retardation - 1/10
