Ati's "Trade-Up" Program

Trade-up Program
ATI's trade-up program allows you to upgrade your existing graphic card, no matter who made it, to a new ATI product at an awesome discounted price. ATI will provide a substantial cash credit to your purchase, when you turn-in your current graphics card.

ATI eliminates the down-time involved in online graphic card purchasing by sending you your new board in advance to install and try out. Once you're satisfied with it, return your old card for a substantial trade-in cash credit (applied to your credit card purchase).

Don't miss out: This may be the easiest way to upgrade your graphic card available today.

The prices do not seem that good to me. Looks like equal or better pricing can be found at multiple vendors using picewatch. And they do not require a $50 deposit until you send them your old card.:Q

And you still have to ship them your old card too!

From the form:

"Product Selection *
Product Description Part Number Trade In Price Security Deposit
RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB AGP 100-437002 $149.00 USD $50 USD
AIW 9700 128MB AGP 100-713001 $349.00 USD $50 USD
RADEON 8500 MAC 64MB AGP 100-431050 $149.00 USD $50 USD

NOTE: You will be charged the Trade-In Price plus the Security Deposit.

Shipping Method *
Ground Courier $15.00 - allow up to 6 business days for delivery
Express Courier $20.00 - allow up to 3 business days for delivery"

As an example, using Pricewatch I saw 10 places with the retail boxed AIW 9700 for under $350 including shipping.

In my box of old computer crap, I have an ISA Trident gfx Card circa 1990, it would tickle me pink for anyone to pay $50 for this!

Some of you seem to have missed the obvious lure here... you are not "getting paid $50" for your card, they just raised the price of the sale 50 bucks. You gain nothing but the pleasure of paying for shipping. Look at the prices... if you are paying over $299 for a 9700pro you are getting ripped off. So here, you get to pay $349, pay huge shipping both for your card AND them sending you the card (newegg ships these free or cheap), and then get the same price or worse than you'd get elsewhere. It's just a good old-fashioned lure, sheesh.

It's the all in wonder, although apparently still not much of a deal.

another thing is it's $50 off their retail price, not $50 off some already hot deal conspired by somone here. and often times $50 off the retail price is still more than the market price.

Yes, but when I did a trade-up to an AIW 8500, they gave me $100 for an old 1 MB ISA card. At just $50, the prices they are offering are not good enough.

Same question...

Also, is the 9600 Pro $150 after the trade-in or before?

$165 shipped for a retail ATi 9600P is a little lower than market price, but you have to go through the hassle and expense of mailing them your old card and waiting for them to receive it for them to credit you the $50.
