Hi ..
Hope I am in the right place to post this ques. I guess the simple question is ..Am I stuck?

Otherwise ...

New mainboard ..Biostar A880G+ ..want to connect audio leads from front of case (Enermax Venus) to board. I think they are AC'97 (case info does not say).

The manual for the Biostar board says ...
"This header allows only HD audio front panel connector; AC’97 connector
is not acceptable".

So ..am I stuck ..or is there a way around this?

The leads from the case front are ..MIC-IN; MIC-PWR; RET-R; RET-L; GROUND; L-OUT; & R-OUT

That is 7 leads ..

The board has 9 pins to connect to

Assignment
1 Mic Left in
2 Ground
3 Mic Right in
4 GPIO
5 Right line in
6 Jack Sense
7 Front Sense
8 Key .............(no pin here)
9 Left line in
1 9
2 10
10 Jack Sense

Again ..am I stuck ..or, is there a way.

Thanks

Done a lot of digging, and I probably need to get a new case if I want this to work. I will have to think long and hard on that ..as I really like the case I have.

Thanks for all that took the time to look.

since the cases connectors are separated it might work if u read the pinout of the mobo connector and plug them in one by one?

why not just use the hdmi port to your receiver?

Also spec says there is an internal spdif header, just use that no?

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/content.php?S_ID=492

Not that well versed in this.

S oo ...the spdif is an audio output that I can rote to the front? That sounds ideal if I understand correctly.
I have been searching and as yet found only RCA ends on any spdif leads/cables. What am I missing?

Also ..you mention HDMI. Are you suggesting attaching a cable to the external HDMI and routing it to the front ..hopefully THROUGH the case? I would like to implement the case plugin for audio already in place if possible. I can post some pix if needed.

Thanks .. this is helping ..for sure.

ok you didn't mention what your audio setup is. What is the audio system this is hooking up to?

I would like to have a headphone jack at the front of the case. I thought it was a simple thing ..am fast finding it not so much.

My thought now is to use the 'frontx' part along with the 5.5mm connector to facilitate this.

Yes? No?

what is the pin out of the front panel header on the mb? not the same as your case's pin out?

Thanks for the reply.

I thought this thread had died/got lost ..so I did start a new one ..
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2173992

I see you have already made a reply there. I will post some shots using Photobucket there.

I skinny of it, though ..there are 10 pins at the front ..and 10 pins on the board. Unless the small pcb in the picture (at the front of case) is what determines whetehr it is HD or not ..I see no reason I could not just run the appropriate wires to the proper pins on each end.

Again ..I really appreciate your time on this.

I understand that. My board states that it cannot make use of AC'97...
quote:
F_AUDIO1: Front Panel Audio Header
This header allows user to connect the front audio output cable with the PC front
panel. This header allows only HD audio front panel connector; AC’97 connector
is not acceptable.

I have attached the separate leads to the pins one would thinkn owuld be acceptable ..to no avail ..yet. Figured I had to find another way.

So the question here remains ...is the small pcb on the case front .. feeding the mic and headphones jack - the determining factor in getting sound from the board to the front of teh case?

Thanks for any and all help.

all you need is really the main speaker out. The so called hd audio just means all six channels. I thought front panel pinouts have been standardised...I guess not.

You can always just get a minijack extension cable. something like this
