simple circuit question

I would like to build a flip-flop circuit using a mommentary switch as a trigger. The circuit will need to drive 12V @ 2A, and nothing on the other side. It seemd fairly easy and simple but I can't come up with the circuit.

So I guess the question is how.

Thanks in advanced,

I'm not sure if this would fall under HT, but anywho,

1) What kind of flip-flop are you trying to make? (D, T, J/K, R/S)

2) I'm not quite sure what you mean by, "drive 12V @ 2A and nothing on the other side." are you saying it has no input?

I would think you'll want to use a buffer on the output so that the flipflop itself doesn't have to supply all that power. What is the purpose of the circuit?

I'm not sure what he wants to do either... but if your purpose is just to toggle the output, you can use a toggle flip flop, tie the Toggle line to high, tie the clock signal to your momentary switch (which the other side goes to high), and have the output drive an nmos transistor. Drain goes to high, source goes to the relay. Other side of the relay goes to 12V, and whatever you want to drive.

And the switch needs to be grounded when not pressed, passed "high" (5v) when pressed. That'll simulate the clock signal and toggle the flip flop everytime you hit the switch since the input to the ff is tied to high. If switch debouncing becomes an issue, then put an AND gate in there to get rid of that problem.

I'm guessing he asked this for a homework assignment or something. Just doesn't sound like a project someone would try for the hell of it unless they did know where to start (and even then it seems pretty silly). And even in this case, they would have given better details on the circuit requirements (the question itself doesn't really make sense to me -- what does "nothing on the other side" mean? Is the circuit a flip-flop itself or are you putting together a circuit that uses a flip-flop? If so, what kind?).

yeah, i don't like people asking hw questions without putting at least a little thought into the question. Next time, just ask what are you trying to do with the circuit? It'll get them everytime

if you dont have anything productive to says, i'm sure zGhost would appreciate you staying out of his thread.

thanks for you attention

1) I don't consider your post particularly productive to answering his question
2) He probably appreciates the thread bumps anyway

zGhost, if your main problem is the voltage and current, you could use a relay, as long as you're not switching too fast (which I doubt, from your voltage and current).

thanks for you attention.

And I already had something productive to say. Where's your input? That's what I thought.
