Now that I agree with. KOTH is and always has been dull, family-friendly pablum.

Put it in perspective:
Even a bad episode of the Simpsons is better than most network television.

People have been saying they've jumped the shark for years.
The funny thing is, that the year/season after which people tend to agree that it went downhill, gets later and later as time goes by. (i.e. back in 2000 people may have said the Simpsons have sucked since 1996, and now the comment about it sucking since 2001).
My theory is that a lot of Simpsons episodes may seem wacky and not as good initially, but as time goes by they become 'classics'. Basically, you have to let them grow on you.
I still personally love the show, even the latest seasons.

That made me laugh.
Can anything beat Seinfeld? I think not.
I turn the channel when Simpsons come on. Mostly theirs nothing on, but its better than telling them that there doing a good job and to keep that ****** show going.
Honestly, how many times can you watch Homer make an ass of himself and still think its funny?
of course, Seinfeld even said his was a show about nothing.Originally posted by: DonVito

I love Seinfeld, but it never aspired to being literate satire - it is, and was meant to be, a very simple show. Consider, by way of contrast, the way the Simpsons have woven cultural influences including but not limited to Citizen Kane, Raging Bull, Jasper Johns, Stephen Hawking, Buddhism, George Lucas, Good Fellas, orthodox Judaism, The Prisoner, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Raven, Poltergeist, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Cape Fear, A Streetcar Named Desire, Eudora Welty, Barry White, Elmer Gantry, The X-Files, insider art, My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, and many, many others into their plotlines.
To each his own, I guess - I think Seinfeld is a very smart, witty show, but it doesn't even approach the literacy of the Simpsons.

The great thing about the Simpsons is on how many levels its funny. When I was a kid, it was funny on its basic, slapstick level (ala family guy type humor). However, the older I get, the more and more subtle (and not so subtle) referrances I pick up on. For instance, in the one episode where the indian at the old folks home throws the water fountain out the window...that was hilarious even when I didn't know what it was from. There's still plenty of things I'm sure I don't get, and its still hilarious.
Greatest show in history.
Agree 100%. The Simpsons still has more funny moments than 99% of the other shows on TV. What would cancelling it accomplish? More room for craptacular network sitcoms like The New Adventures of Old Christine? A seventh night a week of American Idol?Originally posted by: DonVito

Yesterday's episode was funny, shut up and don't watch it if you don't like it.
Exactly. The Simpsons is the greatest, most literate comedy show in the history of television IMO. I will continue to watch it. Even if it's not the strongest it's ever been, it's still great. Are people insisting it should be cancelled in favor of another crappy new Fox show? Otherwise, why do you care if it's still on?
