I did get mine, but the CD key was no good & no manual (I was aware of this when I bought it for $0.99).

I contacted Valve/Steam via e-mail and gave them the CD-Key to the HL2 I bought, and they said it has never been used. SO I should be able to sell it without any problems, hopefully.

Don't support these scumbags. Read the Half Life 2 hot deal thread from a few weeks ago.

Also, I forget, but they may be the same people as the ebay seller surplusdealz05.

LOL I'm surprised it took you so long to find this thread and bash it, like you do in every CD thread.

Your warning might mean something if I haven't already received 2 HL2 that worked for $0.99 each. I'll let you know how the 3rd goes on Wednesday.

I've been getting their email ads for about 2 years now...so I doubt they will be shutting down any time soon.

yeah, i doubt it will close. even after the news story ran they still are open, but they do have a lot less people going in there. they also have competition down the road in nashville with buyessex, which had 180000 94% feedback on ebay. Although Buyessex recently had their ebay account closed for shill bidding, they seem to still have a large crowd still going into their retail store, while I have never seen but 1 or 2 people in Consumer depot at a time.

Yeah, I had a bad experience with Essex. I had to wait at their warehouse to receive a $50 credit for some broken headphones. Never again...

Its very clear the products are AS IS open box returns and that 99 cents is just a leader with most of the huge profit of maybe $5 coming from inflated shipping charges. If thats too risky go pay retail or something.

What kills me is that a deal is brought to the forum and everyone can have their opinions on whether a merchant is good or not...
From what I have seen so far from the majority of the posters that either got in on this deal or the HL2 deal is that almost all received working CDs and in the case of HL2 the vast majority received working keys (SIMS 2 is moot point to working Keys). Everyone who participated in the HL2 deal knew the risk...you were simply asked whether it was worth it or not...if it was not worth it to you, then DON'T DO IT!! But to sit here and constantly bash this place when you didn't even participate...that just shows me you don't have class. If you did participate and you got screwed over, then complain all you want!
I guess the point I'm making is...shut your yaps if you didn't participate...but if you did and you had either a good or bad experience please share!

Put down the crack pipe.

I have had bad experiences with these people, thank you. I know friends that have too.

Keep telling yourself that. I just searched and you've never complained about any purchases YOU made, you just point to threads that may or may not have any problems.

Being broke is nothing to be ashamed of. Just try to limit your whining to things you have experience with. I call shens on the first part of the second claim, too.

I've bought things from them in person, in the past, genius. No, I never posted about my experiences on here, which really makes no difference. I was trying to help, and seems many other people feel the same way about these people. Maybe you perhaps have some relation to this company. You really seem to have no clue what you're talking about. And I doubt anyone cares about your calling shens out of the blue for no reason, simply because, it seems, you don't like me for some childish misconception. Grow up.

Bought HL2 from them. No manual, non-working key, and a noticeable scratch on the disc. Yes, it's less than $10, but still. I'm not going to support a company like that anymore.

HL2 box never came with a manual, the CD Key is easy to get reset through Valve, and I'd imagine Valve would replace your scratched disc at the same time if you asked them to.

Personally, I think I'll wait to see if they allow you to pick up 2 in one order like they did with HL2 after awhile.

I just got mine in today & the game came with everything. Unused CD key & fully functioning... Over 1/2 the price of other stores, definitely the best deal for under $10 shipped

Read all his auctions! the seller specifically says ITEM not testes. so really its the buyers that are taking a risk of bidding on the product.

Not to threadcrap, but everywhere else I have looked for the dvd version is over $30ish shipped. With shipping, it came out to be about $9.00, which to me is a freakin hot deal!!! My 2 cents.

Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.

You have to wonder if they don't know what "open box, untested, AS-IS" means. The items are customer returns. When the box is still sealed most places just put it back on the shelf. When the box is opened, then it get dumped in bins with all the rest of the "junk" a store generates (demos, boxes opened in the store, boxes cut when carton is opened etc.) and sold off to some liqudator.

No normal sane retail buyer would touch this stuff.

Good, since it makes such a good deal for those of use willing to check the stuff out and take the time to fill out forms and get the bad CDs or Keys replaced.

Whining here doesn't paint a very attractive picture of yourself, and gets no sympathy from me. Go and pay retail with sales tax or something.

you don't really need the key to play online or anything do you? sorry i'm a sims noob but would buy this for the gf to tinker with hehe

Other than install:
Last I checked around when sims2 was released they had a couple items to d/l that you had to enter in a CD key to get from thier site. Like an alienware computer (not real, an in game item). I haven't checked since then, but as all thier expansion packs are mainly adding new items to the game (from what I saw at a friends house, sims 2 came with FEWER items in many categories than sims 1 which was pathetic), I can't imagine they are giving you that many items to d/l online.

Its just classic EA and wanting to sell expansion packs (there were like EIGHT freaking expansions for sims 1)

Edit: I checked and there's a grand total of about 20 official maxis items to d/l:
http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/search....type=object&order=CREATION_DATE%20desc

Mostly stuff like a cristmas tree, a Kwanzaa Kinara, Chanukah Menorah , AND a pair of giant scissors (making fun of the company running with scissors no doubt which made postal. I'm surprised that maxis has that as one of their official objects considering how the postal game is so bloody lol)

If you need items, a quick google search turns up places like:
http://www.welldressedsim.com/sims.php?version=2&type=f&sort=pop
or:
http://www.spiffysims.com/modules.php?name=Downloads
Which are probably better than most of the stuff from official site anyway lol.
