Sounds kind of like Madden or other rinse and repeat EA sports titles to me. But at least with Madden you don't have to pay $20 extra for a set of new benches.

lol Imagine that.. You buy a Madden game and they give you these shitty wooden benches for the players to sit on. So if you want to "upgrade" those to new shiny metal benches, prepare to shell out $20. Want some new uniforms for your team? $20 Want some new field logos and designs? $20..

The big difference is once the game loads the entire town is connected with no load times. So you can run around or drive anyware in town. Like GTA is a connected world....Only this is a small town.

I'm surprised she is not happy about having a bare game again and having to wait & pay for add-on packs again....

When The Sims came out, it was fun, it was new. It was addicting. The Living Large expansion came out and wow a whole lot of new stuff. Then more and more came out. As well as a crap load of third party items and content.
They also ported The Sims on the consoles. I had the PS2 version and it was fun to play two player mode it had allot of stuff, but it just wasn't the same. I also remember hearing of Simsville, that was a mix of Sims and Simcity and it never came out. However The Sims: Online came, but no one really cared about it. lol. So yeah....Sims 2 came out & made The Sims better. The add-ons came out as well. Even Stuff packs. Add in 3rd party mods and content and the game was a blast to tinker with.

The Sims Online came back as EA Land which was free this time....But they decided to kill it....I just downloaded it and made an account......Then a week later it was announced they were shutting it down.

So now The Sims 3 is here and while we have new features......We have to buy the add-ons again.... Good thing you can find good deals.

I think The Sims has to have the most expansion packs I have ever seen with games....I mean take the Roller Coaster Tycoon games....They get what? Two or three expansions and that's it. You don't feel like there gauging your wallet. What makes PC games better than console games is the mods and add-ons and such. I mean you get a game like Half-Life 2 and get access to tons of free mods. It's the gift that keeps on giving. That's one of the reasons I love gaming on a PC.

So yeah....I think when you get a game it should feel worth it and be packed with tons of content....So The Sims has become annoying with milking the consumer. However it's fun being able to mess with The Sims.... Only time will tell how consumers take it when Sims 4 & 5 comes out in the future....

Well they are starting to produce some custom content, mostly homes at mts2 now. Also they've finally got a custom skintone working.

I must say this time around making Sims is of course better and really fun. Customizing traits is awesome. I made some insane evil Sims. It's just awesome!

I looked around the Sim Store and it beats me why anyone would want to buy that stuff anyway. Its not all that great looking. I'm seeing fan made items that is just as good and often better and its free on top of that. But if EA can make money off of it more power to them. Who am I to tell people what to do with their money. Anyway so far I can see the attraction to the game. I wanted to make a crazy dictator type person. I used Hitler as my model. Why make an ordinary guy when you can make a crazed charismatic maniac, right? LOL I got the look pretty good although not exact. I couldnt get that short funny mustache like Hitler wore. The mustache choices are the type of normal style. I got him into a political job at city hall. I'm hoping he'll get into political office and try and rule the Sim world like a dictator. One of his wishes is to work in the criminal underworld. I havent figured out yet where to send him to do that. Its funny to watch him interact with others. Some people find him okay, Some find him charming. Some find him boring. Some dont like him outright. This game is time consuming like a MMO can be. You start playing and before you know it hours have slipped by. Its definetely a different kind of game compared to what I have played in the past. I'm not particularly fond of feeding him and getting him rest but to watch him steal a baby's candy sure is funny.

Yeah, this is stupid. I don't want to have to level up my waffle making skills, either. I could make it right off the bat by looking in a cook book.

Or, you know, get frozen waffles and pop them in the toaster for a couple minutes.

Just, really...there's no reason my guy should have to wake up 2-3 hours before his ride comes to pick him up for work. :/

I installed this game proper, but I am having problems with it. I was hoping one of you fellas could help me out here.

I have a family of 4, coming on 5, in a small but well furnished home. I made a new room for the baby that's on the way and are doing all I can to prepare for it. But my game keeps locking up my sims as the world around is still going (ex. their needs keep tickling down as time continues to fly, but they remain idle doing nothing like they stand in front of the refrigerator and do nothing when they're assigned to.) I have also noticed if you have a baby, you cannot save your game for some reason. You may click the 'save' button on your hud under '...' but when you do that, the game never saves, it gets stuck on the saving splash you see once you click it. Is there any way you guys can help me out with this.

PS: These kind of problems DESTROY the experience. And I hope none of you get it, this game is too playful for problems like these .

No lock ups for me yet (knocks on wood). Have you looked through the Sims 3 forums yet to see if anyone there has had the problem and wether there's a fix for it? I'm guessing you'd get more info there than this smaller group here at AT.

Wow..... Sims 3..... Level up your cooking skillz....

Wow. bitching about a virtual life....this is just like the previous sim games. For god sakes, you don't even have to do anything besides tell them to do it.

Anyone playing it? What do you think of it so far? Is it possible to see inside the building where you sim is working? I can only seem to see it from the outside. Also when I send my sims to places like the art museum I can't see inside. Is it supposed to be like this? I would be more impressed with the game if it allowed us to see inside everything.

You can see some buildings... like Gym, Library, other neighbor house, if you visit them... but some others like jobs or other buildings are based on the selection u make with the building, but not inside of the building at all... if you zoom in too much... you can see the building going away and some terrain like concrete appear... lol... I guess we need Open for Business 3 to see inside the jobs...

^This is why it's best to wait 2 years after release, so we can download the "complete" game in one tidy package. Screw paying for a crippled beta version...

I love the game. I've been playing the Sims since the beginning. I don't mind not being able to see inside the building in which they work because then they'd have to have animations and such for when they are actually working and such. But all in all I enjoy the game. I got it the day it came out and there are just soo many things that can be done in that game and different variations that it'll keep me on my toes. Can't wait for expansion packs.
