Since when did newegg start charging a restocking fee for returning defective items?

I'm pretty sure I wasn't charged before. I had bought a POS video card that kept crashing on me but since they don't have advance RMA I would have been stuck without a computer for 2 weeks. So I just ordered another one and was going to return the old one.

they did advance rma for me before

I called and asked about it, they said to order a new one with them on the phone there and then they'd refund the price when they got the other item.

I got free shipping on it too.

They have been going down hill quickly. But really, where else is there to shop for computer components online these days?

I complained about a restocking fee about a defective part two weeks ago, and they lifted the 15% restocking fee for me

I returned a monitor a few years ago, they waived the fee because I complained. They're pretty flexible.

Yeah, just call them or do a live chat. They'll generally waive the fee if the item was defective.

I only use newegg as a database these days rather than as retailer... they should just shut down their outfit, and put up ads on their website.

well they send it back and then get a new one in a separate order, so yeah there is a restock.

They started doing this because normally one would just get a replacement, now people are using items until they see another merchant for less....they then claim their current item is defective and HAD to source another locally.

It screws those with a real issue.

That doesn't make any sense. If that's the case, and item sold should have a restocking fee since they are replacing the one sold and "restocking" their inventory.

I think people have been saying this for years. Actually, people say this about every company. Every company is going downhill, yet most of their customers remain happy.

Ohh, don't get me wrong. I'm happy with them. Their prices (without shipping) are better than any other reputable place. It is really the shipping that kills their deals for me.

I understand that they ship multiple items from various locations, but when I buy a power supply +$7 shipping, an extension cable +$3 shipping, and then some thermal goop ($2 item) + $4 shipping and it all comes in one box that could have been shipped for $5... I get a little agrivated.

It makes sense because he didn't want a replacement. Restocking fees are nothing more than a disincentive to buy something, try it, and return because you don't like it. From a retailers perspective, that means a return with no replacement.

Additionally, the OP is just assuming the product is defective because it's causing issues with his computer.

I admit I do use their item comments section even when I'm NOT buying there these days.

Tigerdirect sounds great, BUT I'm in Illinois. Thus Chicago presence, thus TAX.

www.zipzoomfly.com

www.mwave.com

etc...

Tigerdirect is what I use almost exclusively. Like someone said, do the research at NewEgg, buy somewhere else
