Since when has there been no sales tax in NY and NJ on items?

I am in NY visiting and I found out that there is no sales tax on any item under $110. I certainly don't remember this being the case when I was here a couple of years ago. Is this a recent change? It feels great to buy items and not worry about tax.

I dunno.
In many states theres no tax on groceries, or at least on essential grocery items. I lived on Oregon for a few years. No tax on any sales.
But they ravage your on property and income tax.


It all balances out in the end. If NY is getting off easy on cheap purchases, they are getting it back elsewhere.
