To be fair logistics and planning are quite a bit easier on an island with less than 6 million people. Not that the U.S. was nearly where they should have been in preparedness itself.

You're not going to convince me that we can find the funding and manpower to police half the globe, but not get food and water to our own citizens. Not happening.

500B emergency fund, mobilize all national guards, start getting fucking MREs to high risk populations for all I care. This isn't a time to waffle around with 'well, due to our shit economy, some people are too broke to stop working, so we'll just let those ones die'.

Is $500B in MRE's going to placate the millions of parents stuck home with their kids for 2 weeks or more 24/7? I think you misunderstand the scope of the problem, urban progressive moms will be the first to riot if stuck in their $2mm 800sq ft townhouse with their crotchspawn for a few weeks or more instead of dumping them off on the nanny or at daycare and heading into their office to get some peace and quiet. If was just a matter of getting food to people the folks stuck on the cruise boats would happily stay locked aboard for however long it takes instead of screaming to get out.

How about think outside the box type stuff. Put something in place where the Guard will drop off food & supplies to infected homes. Have some sort of process or website or app where people can order shit. Have some kind of process for what to do if they cannot afford the supplies. Doesn’t have to be a firm plan and accept that it may not be a perfect plan but have something in place.

Don't care one iota about the mental state of childish adults. If someone's that incapable of being forced to live their life in relative isolation for two weeks, they have problems that the government cannot fix (though COVID-19 might).

Good. Let him. Maybe they can take a few of themselves out as well as Trump. Ignorance cannot be stopped!!!

My fantasy is the President & Vice President get so sick we need to swear in Nancy for a week.

**Important** I don’t want them dead, I don’t want them to have any long term problems.

I have no doubt you don't care. Politicians do care however. You'll notice no Dem governor or mayor has imposed isolation (except in very limited cases like 1 mile exclusion zone around New Rochelle, NY) for that reason. And it's not because Trump is a psychopath for not ordering it any more than those Dem governors are pyschopaths for not doing so either.

Welp, I guess we get to claim moral superiority based on who pulls the trigger first then.

Great little infograph regarding testing levels relative to population, and how we're falling behind.

Wonder what the Vegas betting lines would be on a widespread quarantine order (multi-county or greater for Gov, entire state or region for Trump). I'm guessing moneyline on Trump would be +300 against the field (consisting of governors and mayors) with governors of WA and NY being around -130 or so.

Might have to go higher on Trump, him committing to widespread quarantine is almost guaranteeing he loses next election due to economic loss, in his wormy brain.

Honestly I'd give better odds that he and Pence just die of COVID-19.

Not surprised you don't really differentiate between "effective government" and "authoritarian government." In 2018, Singapore was ranked 151st by Reporters Without Borders in the Worldwide Press Freedom Index, but I guess to you that's a model for us to emulate? As @zinfamous stated it's a lot easier if you completely disregard any sense of civil liberties. Spitting gets you whipped, drug possession executed, and I guess coronavirus gets you keelhauled there?

its trumps fault this is so bad. And by extension its your fault for voting for him. Just remember that when you are gargling on your liquefied lungs.

My post was a snarky response to Starbuck repeatedly insinuating that the incompetence of the Trump administration's response didn't matter because every country was getting infections at a similar rate.

Why do you bother with this nonsense where you pretend that I've finally pulled off my secret authoritarian mask and revealed myself for the real Stalinist you always assumed I am? It's never going to happen, so you might as well give up on it.
I didn’t take it as snarky.

As we all know, the world is at risk from disease. People are afraid to go out without masks
Even if they just don't go out. Then something went wrong. The market is facing a serious crisis.
There is a problem, how do we solve it?
Those who have stocked before or during this time will be the winners
Because the epidemic has been brought under control
When the day comes, the desire to indulge in buying is about to erupt.
So we can sell better or better
We, 9020 Company, are a company dedicated to various practical products for life for many years
Through our own raw materials factory, we can ensure that we can catch up with the delivery time
In addition, we also produce gauze masks, such as disposable medical surgical masks, civilian masks, 3-layer medical surgical masks, etc.
If you are interested, please feel free to contact me: dashiki52@gmail.com

Me too. I got all what he has plus dildos and lube.

You can have an effective emergency posture without having an authoritarian government posture. Quit being obtuse.
It's pretty easy to get full public compliance with any order when the public will be jailed, beaten, or killed for non compliance.

So what? Florida Man (he's everywhere) will brave all of that for a six pack or attending church on Easter Sunday. He'll do it just to rave about big gubmint taking away his freedumb-

And he'll brave all obstacles to vote for Trump, too.

I think there's some room for nuance in this. Singapore is a city-state. Weirdly to me, it's often in the past been held out, by free-marketeers, as an example of how great free-market capitalism is. Yet I think at least at one time the state owned all the land - meaning everyone lived in a kind of 'social housing'.

It seems a bit like a giant home-owners-association. I imagine if you lived in a community entirely run by a HOA you might find it dealt quite well with epidemics, but with a lot of downsides.

But the fact that people in the past have told me that it's illegal there to flush your toilet after midnight (don't know if that's literally true) doesn't mean there aren't things that one might learn from how they handled this outbreak.

I think that was in an effort to curb housing costs and ensure availability, considering they are quite limited in land area. I haven't read up enough about its effectiveness so can't say whether it worked.
