Say what you want about their music or lyrics, but as vocalists they were fantastic.

A friend of mine was at a Meatloaf concert back in the 70's or 80's can't remember which.

He told me the power went out to the sound equipment but Meatloaf continued to sing without the mic. He told me he couldn't believe how good he sounded even without using the microphone.

I got news for you. No matter who is up there on the stage there is going to be lots of processing between their mic and what you're hearing. It's the nature of the beast in pro audio.

When did this processing become the norm, 70's,80's etc.?

Yes, there was absolutely no processing in this.

Ive been forced fed so much of her that my general dislike for her has turned into actual hatred.

Bolded for emphasis.
Quoted for Truth.

At the very least there will be a peak limiter, possibly some very soft compression and reverb, no matter who is stepping up tp the microphone.

Two of my favorites who haven't been mentioned ...
Bruce Dickinson ... Iron Maiden fvcking kicks ass.
Chuck Schuldiner ... pretty much created the whole death metal grunt style of singing.

have you heard the clip where they accidentally left britney's microphone on during a concert?

lol

P!NK turned Spears down when Spears asked her to help with new lyrics as of 07 'cuz P!NK claimed Spears as an "entertainer" not a singer.

P!NK is just jealous she'll never be as big as Spears in even 25 life times all stacked up.

Some music videos are worth watching only half way... coriagraphy (spelt rong?) sucks for a lot of them.

I'm kind of surprised that Nancy was mentioned, along with a mention of a Heart cover, but nobody has actually said Ann Wilson. Great voice, IMHO.

Another two that I personally really like, that I know people will probably disagree with, are Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette.

As long as I can remember - 1970's.

Bad singing is just bad singing though and should be immediately recognizable. Problem with today's shows the men and boys have a huge distraction bouncing around on the stage thus making their critique highly influenced!

Being more of a classic rock fan, Styx puts on a great live performance.
