Single 34" or dual 27/29" 1440p/21:9 displays?

Curious if anyone has experience with both scenarios. I'm torn between going with a single 34" display or going the dual monitor route. I definitely want the 21:9 experience, just not sure which direction to go in terms of single or dual.

On the one hand it appears that the smaller displays are more likely to support better refresh rates, but the larger ones have the potential for better immersion.

I should mention this is primarily for gaming, but also will come in handy for work. I'm a sysadmin so I can never have enough screens and windows when working.

Anyone here gone down both paths?

One huge problem with dual monitors with games is that there's a bezel right in the middle. This might be fine for some types of games but something like FPS would be hugely distracting or even unplayable. If you want to go multiple monitors then a triple setup would be better. A 21:9 ultrawide would solve all this but not all games support this aspect ratio but then again even less games support the resolution on a tri set up. I do think going forward more and more games will support 21:9 because the extra wide field of view definitely brings a new level of immersion.

I went with dual 25" 16:9 1440p over a single 34" 21:9 1440p, the cost difference at the time was ~$450 cheaper to get the dual 16:9 1440p

I am happy with my choice, I have more overall resolution (5120x1440 vs 3440x1440) and 2560x1440 is great for gaming, I don't think 3440x1440 would really have made any real difference for how the games I play feel. I would much rather have the extra screen for web browsing, movies, tv, etc.

I like multi-tasking and have been using 2 monitors for several years, so at the end of the day I just couldn't get rid of the two displays.

I used eyefinity in the past and the "seams" always bugged me a little until I got real into the game and then I hardly noticed them.

Don't think I could say the same for dual screens and gaming though... even a ultra thin bezel gap would probably drive me nuts

I miss the triple setup, but I am enjoying my single 34" now that I've worked the bugs out

Two screen gaming doesn't exist really so that's not really a big deal with a two monitor setup. You simply play a game on one of the two displays.

Decide on what gaming monitor you want and then add a second monitor for productivity if you want to. As mnewsham said, you'll only be gaming on one monitor.
