I have a m1330 right now that has
t9500
4 gigs of ram
led screen
64 ssd drive
8400gs (which is a big reason why I am considering this)
9 cell battery
fingerprint reader, etc
It's in mint condition and has about 6 months of warranty left on it. My video card has not failed but I was going to extend my warranty but saw the new line of ultra portables coming out. Gizmodo leak link I thought I could sell my m1330 while it holds decent value and before dell releases a new line especially after the faulty nvidia chips. I could wait for a few months for their rumored line if I where to sell now and wait.
I am out for 9-12 hours a day. I do play play wc3 about twice a week. I am into photography so I do photo editing with photoshop and lightroom and I do use dreamweaver as well. Mostly just surfing, email and documents which I do frequently. I would also like to have some media portability with my laptop to catch up on the latest upcoming episodes of Heroes and Entourage. I webcam frequently with my family overseas and my girlfriend so I would like a decent webcam. I will want to pay starcraft 2 whenever that comes out. I'd build a watercooled desktop with a ufo case and 4 gigs of ram I already have with a nice 37 westy.
m1330 pros
- all in one portable very well machine for it's size and its great considering I am out for 9-12 hours of the day
- decent graphics
- led backlit screen
- has not crashed and failed
- runs vista 64 bit like a champ with the widgets which i have grown fond of
- fast
- comfortable to use
- 4.5 - 4 hours of battery life on a 9 cell battery
- appreciated design features over time like slot loaded dvd tray, touch sensitive control panel
m1330 cons
- faulty Nvidia chips. Big con
- I would have to purchase their additional extended warranty at $179.
- I'd have to sell soon to get decent value for my lappy if I wanted to upgrade with the upcoming rumors of the newer lines
desktop + ultra port pros
- nothing beats a desktop computer at home
- I'd be able to get a 37 westy or opt for more real estate in the 24+ in lcd and Ill double it as a tv which I could not justify before
- a decent build can be had for a good price
- I already have a ufo case and 4 gigs of ddr2 10xx
- Uber storage for photos
- power and graphics which I have missed since going with lappy as my main
- ulta port will be fairly cheap and not have to worry about it as much and it will get the job done
desktop + ultra port cons
- might cost more money if I get carried away
- won't be home to use the desktop as much as I would like and might end up having a rig that I won't be able to use
- ultra port might not have enough speed and power for me
- I'm going to miss my m1330
