Since this thread was made, I ran into a pretty good method of tying boots. Works well...

Double knot but I can slide most of my sneakers on without unlacing them. Shoes is another story.

Plus my favorite kicks, my Campers, don't have laces you need to tie. They are too European fashion forward for those plebeian things like tying shoelaces....pfffft

I've switch over to "On Cloud" brand's Cloud Waterproof shoes that have the best lacing system I've ever used. Absolutely love how they fit, no regular laces shoes have ever fit as well. On top of that they are super light and water proof.

I double when I have enough length. Reason is, for my every day shoes I just leave them tied. Use a shoehorn, or even a finger most of the time.

Don't like shoes getting untied by accident. More than once I've been riding my bike and had untied laces wrap around my pedals. That's dangerous.

I use a square knot which is really what a bowed knot is. But I use a triple twist and follow with a triple twist bow. It's indistinguishable from a standard bow but the 2 extra twist create a surprising amount of slip resistance.

The downside is that let's say you have some lounge pants with a string closure. If you try the triple-triple approach, for reasons I cannot fathom and which seemingly violate local causality, they can, over time, rearrange themselves into something like a gordian knot.

Does Ringling Bros, Barnum, and Bailey know you stole their clown shoes?
Considering Camper shoes are from Mallorca, Spain, I doubt they even know who that is

The gray pair on the right gets a lot of random compliments, followed by the grays on the left with a few. They look great on the foot, easily slide on and off, and are comfy. I'll be buying them again when these wear out.

The other Campers I want but ain't spendin' money on more shoes now:

I used to always double knot. But the laces on my Mizuno shoes stay tied and tight with a single so I never knot them even for long runs. Hiking boots, skates, etc I still double knot because they always come loose.

Depends .... hanging at home I wear slippers or sandals 90% of the time and work boots tightly-double knotted the remaining 10% or so.

When I'm out it's sneakers instead of slippers/sandals with a "snug" double-knot and boots done the same as above in approx the same percentage's too.

The only exception to this is if taking a 2-3 hour plus drive I'll go with sneakers but very loosely laced ... still double-knotted though.

Double knot.
Sneakers, I tie up once, not extra snug; double knotted, and don't untie them after.....Slide them on and off similar to slippers.

At home, it's slide sandals or slide-on deck shoe type (Sketcher relaxed fit)

"Tennies" are Merrell Moab Stretch, they have speed laces on them but they're slide-ons essentially.

Boots or hi-top hikers will get double-knotted only if the laces don't stay tied with a single knot.

I agree with @Muse about double-knotting shoes while bicycle riding...not just to keep them tied but to keep the hanging lace shorter. I always did that, as well as rolling up my right pant leg.

i have several pair of sketchers slip on shoes that i LOVE.

my vans get a single knot. standard cloth laces, they never come untied.

on the extremely incredibly very super rare occasion i have to wear boots here in FL, i do double knot the boots. but the laces are braided and will untie otherwise.

I can't remember the last time I tied a sneaker or casual shoe that has shoelaces. The Campers I posted don't have shoelaces you can tie but those are newer, and all my other sneaks and casual kicks do, but they never get tied or untied, they stay in one state and I just slip them on and off and that's it. My Salomon low cut hiking shoes have their kevlar laces that don't need to be tied. Only thing that gets tied are dressier shoes/boots and regular hiking boots.

Tying and untying shoelaces is so last century.
