Bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16yr and a bottle of Glenmorangie's "The Lasanta" 12yr tonight.
I'm sorta just discovering good scotch after having been a bourbon guy for a long time.
I finished a bottle of Glenfiddich 15yr recently which I really enjoyed, and before that a bottle of The Glenlivet 12yr which was also good, but the Lagavulin's smokey, peaty flavor is a delicious and surprising contrast. The Glenmorangie is much lighter and sweeter on the palate, and while it is enjoyable, it isn't anywhere near as distinctive as the Lagavulin or even the Glenfiddich I just finished.
I intend to try a new brand pretty regularly over the next year or so until I can really get a handle on what I like best, and which ones are my favorites.
