Single payer in America is a bad idea.

Just watched this clip of John Stossel interviewing this guy (Chris Pope).

I admit, while I think private health care is a better option for us, it isn't a hard line in the sand I'd draw. Our system to me feels far from perfect, I think our costs are outrageous and only rarely pricing is upfront. But, I just don't see governmentized health care being better. I wonder what it may do for the pace of innovation, too. But anyway, this guy makes some good points in the video and he looks like someone that would know what he's talking about on the subject. What do you think?

Clip was good for a laugh, thanks. Meanwhile countries with universal healthcare will enjoy better coverage, similar or better outcomes and still pay much. much less than the US does. Keep debating.

Speaking as someone who, thankfully, lives with a single payer system, what a steaming pile of propaganda. But, it's your country. You guys want to fuck yourselves over for the benefit of private business, feel free to do so.

I always get my advice from someone who looks like he knows what he is talking about. It's a lot easier that actually researching who he is and who pays him to give that advice.

America can go to hell with Trump. The faster it becomes a wasteland, so much the better for Russia. We're all Russians here right?

What the fuck do we russians care if fat ugly Americans have trouble paying their medical bills and die? So much the better that they are unable to defend their lands? We'll just walk in and take Alaska back super easy.

Tajbot will be along soon enough to give more love to Comrade Putin.

Oh and if you're too stoopey to figure this out..

that was sarcasm.

Because it's soooooo much better to bankrupt people for making the 'mistake' of getting cancer, or making them refuse treatment for serious injuries because they can't afford it.

Single-payer is the better system. It's just a question of how quickly the US could transition to it. But we have to get away from a system where people are discouraged from receiving treatment, equipment and drug producers are encouraged to gouge customers, and insurance companies are encouraged to minimize coverage.

LOL @ "He looks like someone that knows what he is talking about."

If you are so easily duped based on the looks of an individual what is your excuse for thinking Trump knows what he is talking about? Trump obviously looks like he has no idea what he is talking about.

Something interesting I stumbled across.....do you know how many Americans are driven into poverty due to medical bills? Seems the answer is northward of 7M Americans.

The Effects of Household Medical Expenditures on Income Inequality in the United States

We analyzed data from the US Current Population Surveys for calendar years 2010 through 2014. In 2014, the Gini index was 47.84, which rose to 49.21 after medical outlays were subtracted, indicating that medical outlays effectively redistributed about 1.37% of total income from poorer to richer individuals, a slightly smaller redistribution compared with the years before the ACA. Medical outlays reduced the median income of the poorest decile by 47.6% versus 2.7% for the wealthiest decile and pushed 7.013 million individuals into poverty.

Conclusions. The way we finance medical care exacerbates income inequality and impoverishes millions of Americans. This regressive financing pattern improved minimally in the wake of the ACA.

Unfortunately, to see the full report one must pay ~$40. I'm not, but the abstract seems good enough this time. Tragic that some still support healthcare-for-profit in this country.

How is single payer governmentized health care?
Most models still have healthcare being delivered through private institutions and non-profit institutions as today. Only difference is everyone in the country is basically on medicare as opposed to being splintered into 100+ private insurance plans.
