Single Player vs Multi-Player...?

Which do you prefer...?

I personally prefer single player with a good story. Just gets old after a while running around and killing people so you can what...talk trash?

I like being a part of a story where I am important to what happens in the story and the goals that are accomplished...

But, there is NO wrong answer, it's whatever YOU enjoy...

Single-player, though I enjoy MP for certain stints.

All the reasons you listed are why I enjoy SP the most.

I enjoyed Multiplayer back before internet was available to the masses to play every game. Multiplayer quality has gone downhill now.

So I play singleplayer. I'd play Multiplayer if it returned to the days where it catered to gamers and not towards casual players.

Multiplayer. Has always been this way.

I don't want to find out the AIs weaknesses, that's boring.

I've only played single player with friends if we only had one computer, back in the days.

^ This +1000000. Used to be big on multi back in my teens (starting with Doom then Quake, etc, bwahahaha ), now almost entirely SP. MP is most enjoyable I think when you play with people you know and can have a laugh with in person (LAN party). As you get older, work / family commitments, etc, mean meeting up in person happens less often. You try "randoms" online, but as you said, too many childish morons (many of which are young kids with "ego issues"). Even playing with people you know online, you're not always available at the same time / there tend to often be interruptions (at least in our house). Others are obsessed with grinding to gain levels / ranks rather than relaxing and having fun.

For SP, sure the AI can be iffy, but there have been some epic's over the years with amazing immersive plots (Bioshock, Deus Ex, many older RPG's, etc). Hell even SP Doom is still great for "stress relief".

Multiplayer can die a horrible death. I'm ok with multiplayer games being multiplayer, but when publishers/developers feel that they need to add multiplayer aspects to my beloved single player games (which adds to the cost/development time/quality) then I get mad.

I tend to get my MP fix through MMOs; I'm back playing TOR; partly cause my guild kept going when are you coming back; we miss you tanking etc....partly cause I do like the game and like what they have done with it.

give me a good story; that's what single player should be; nothing like 5 hours and done; something epic..... just wish I had more time

I haven't played multi-player since Quake (the first one). I wouldn't mind trying something casual or maybe sports related, but I just don't have time for the big online games like WoW or DOTA, etc. I'm pretty much a roguelike and RPG guy and those tend to focus on single player anyhow.

I mostly play multiplayer. I bought Call of Duty Ghost and have never played the single player part of the game, never finished Black Ops 2 single player because it was way too on rails. The only single player games I like are ones that have a ton of content, are free to roam and have like 100+ hours of gameplay like, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim, Borderlands 1 and 2 and X-Com-UFO Defense (I know it's an old game but you just can't beat it for a strategy) game. I did enjoy the New Wolfenstein and Serious Sam-BFE. For co-op nothing beats Killing Floor.

I preferred single player until I realized that I could purchase a subscription to a cheat website for only a billion dollars a year. Now when I'm not working a long shift at McDonald's I'm pwning n00bs at CS: GO.

One of the many reasons I hate multiplayer. Along with the masssive amounts of ways to ensure casual players don't feel "bad" about themselves.

Titanfall's tons of NPCs to kill so they feel good about themselves (I watched my friends who are casual players play titanfall and be so excited to get tons of kills. I remember loading up CS 1.6 and getting destroyed my first couple of times I played. I was playing vs a clan of girl gamers... didn't even know girls were serious about gaming like that when I was that young lol.)

Multiplayer aspects in singleplayer games (In an effort to prevent piracy I'm guessing.

No Leaderboard rankings... (Yes, we know you're capable of adding them in, you just remove them so people dont' see how terrible they are at games. Halo 4 my friends would tell me how bad I was at it... meanwhile, highest KD, highest win ratio, etc. THey never looked at their stats themselves. Halo 2 tried to bring this back and still half assed it).

Multiplayer is reflecting our societies "Please make me feel good at EVERY SINGLE TURN of I'll cry and quit."

Single. Stopped doing multi years ago. I may play a lot each week but I always need to be able to pause, thus no multi ever.

Both are necessary.

Multiplayer can go die in a corner somewhere. I'd love a 20hr single player shooter (that isn't Far Cry or the new Wolfenstein) that is single player only with an actual point that actually goes somewhere and isn't a generic cliched filled story either.

EDIT: Inquisition has separate multiplayer which is pointless. If they never bothered and instead boosted the main single player by another 50 hrs, which would you prefer?

Back before there were guides to teaching everyone how to play and cheat, I used to split my time between multiplayer and single player. Multiplayer was a lot more fun and interesting. You could be creative and your opponents rarely cheated. Now nothing is a surprise, as everyone reads the latest guides for everything, and creativity has gone out the window. Cheating is also an issue.

I now play single player almost exclusively.

I don't care either way. The game doesn't need another 50 hours, and I don't play multiplayer. I'd personally prefer a game that is manageable in size, so I can play it multiple ways and not get bored with each play through.

I enjoy single player! Multiplayer has way to many variables that have no bearing on actual skill!

The variables could be but are not limited to....CPU......Video card...keyboard -- mechanical vs the other kind...mouse........internet connection and that includes ping....how many hops to said server...upload and download.....where is the server located...etc.....

That is why I am of the opinion most people with monster skills at a particular game do not do well in organized LAN tournaments because the really well organized tourneys make attempt to make everything equal to and including exact same computer...etc...

Single player mostly as long as the story is good. It's fun to figure out how to "break" the AI pathing.

MMO's can be fun depending upon the people you group with.

My preferred multi-player is non-gaming -> weekly adult rec beer league ice hockey

Recently and level 100 usually don't go together.

But got me, haven't played it in years.

This question is akin to asking "Running or Jumping. Which do you prefer?"

I mean, it's not a question without an answer. It's a question the answer to which is totally dependent on a much more important and, incidentally, broader question: "what's the kind of game you enjoy the most?"

I enjoy games like Thief II. I enjoy games like Alien Isolation. Games like Fallout II or The Witcher. Those are all single-player games.

I also enjoy games like StarCraft, like Company of Heroes, Europa Universalis, Minecraft or racing simulators (or just racers in general). Those are games which have (or can have) both single-player and multiplayer modes.

I also enjoy games like Team Fortress 2 or Counter Strike, which are games that rely solely on multiplayer.

Which do I prefer though? I'd say singleplayer. But I also prefer multiplayer. Just not for the same games.

Recently and level 100 usually don't go together.

But got me, haven't played it in years.
I do believe WoW has an auto level button where you can just create a max level character.
Wouldn't know for sure because I don't enjoy that kind of games very much, and as such I only played like 10 hours or something, with the trial.

Well I guess rediscovered it is more accurate. I played it in 2008 and never got into it, played again early 2014, got into it a bit more then quit again. Tried the new WoD expansion and having some fun with that, they give you a boost to 90 with it.

I kept quitting before because of all the quests, they're so fooking boring sometimes. Go here, kill X, bring back Y. It never changes and I couldn't stomach it. Skipping straight to 90 helped a lot.
