Single slot video card for FFXIV

got a quick question for you guys, what video card(s) can run FFXIV at 1024x768 at least decently but doesnt use much power and is a single slot?

The system is a core 2 duo 2.93Ghz w/ 4gb DDR2 RAM and the huge limitation on it is power (300W peak) and heat. Let me explain, this is a car PC that is going in the trunk so it will be exposed to all temperatures throughout the year in NC, winter wont matter at all, but summers obviously will but chances are I wont play during the summer months anyway.

The motherboard I have now has the Geforce 9300 onboard video but that wouldnt fly with FFXIV so I just wanted to know if it were possible to fit a video card with my requirements in it, if not its no big deal, just curious. Thanks ahead of time!

I currently run a HD 5770 1gb and it's a nice card. At your resolution, you'll have plenty of juice to fire up any game you throw at it!

Well in all honesty, i'd recommend at leats a 450W PSU if you plan on upgrading your video card in the enar future. Even if the 5750/5770 cards don't need lost of power, they require a 450W PSU minimum.

Even the lowest end of the HD 5000 series demand a 400W PSU.

I don't know what your video card is currently...in fact, what do you have?

Every video card in existence should be able to tolerate a 90F ambient temperature just fine. As far as your power supply, it's below what the card probably suggests or "requires", yet it may work anyway. Not all power supplies are created equal and if you have a high quality 300W it might be okay. However a new power supply isn't all that expensive, if you want to play it safe you should upgrade that before upgrading your video card.

1024x768 isn't exactly a high resolution, so I'd recommend getting a 5670. They use very little power, and offer good performance.

And if you use something like ATITrayTools to lower the voltage of the card, you can get even higher power savings.

Have you seen how terribly FFXIV runs? I'm not sure a 5670 would be enough for it.

I have no idea how it performs. None of the benchmark sites I peruse I don't think included it in their tests.

I suppose in this case, a 5770 would be a good choice. It can be undervolted as well, which can reduce power consumption.

That's true. But I'll tell you what though, AMD cards are performing much better in FFXIV than NV.

Before I upgraded to a GTX 460, I ran the FF14 beta with my 8800GT @ 1280x720. It wasn't great by any means, but it was mostly playable. The retail version is slightly less demanding, and a drop to 1024 would make a difference, too.

Honestly, I'd try it with the onboard 9300 first, just to get a baseline for where it is, but I'm guessing the suggestions of something like a 5770 are pretty much on-target for something that would actually be enjoyable.

I never actually tried the onboard 9300, just assumed it would fail, but I can check it out before I try a video card.
