Sipix Blink Digital Camera - $22.80 (after coupon at HSN)

Aloha All,

This might of interest to those looking for a really small digital camera. HSN has the SiPix Blink (2"x2"x0.6") camera for $39.95 plus $7.95 shipping. There's a $25 off $35 purchase (first time customers only) coupon out there (check out the usual places gang... ) that brings the final cost to $22.80 shipped.

The specs on this camera aren't that great ~300,000 pixels and 640x480 max resolution, but I've been checking out the reviews on the 'net and they seem pretty positive especially given the small size. At the very least I figure can use to grab some quick shots for the web or it as a webcam (with included software).

Anyway, I've ordered one yesterday and will post more about it when I receive it (hopefully within the 7-10 days delivery schedule from HSN).

I received one of these from HSN today actually. It's been out of stock all day though.

For $24 it's very cool, not much bigger than a pack of matches. The image quality is pretty decent, for the price anyway...

Wow...out of stock huh? I just happened across it yesterday, hope my order goes through.

As for the reviews... actually most of them are info from the electronics shows, but here's a hand's-on review: http://www.vnunet.com/Products/Hardware/1130194 . There's at last one more somewhere, but I can't find it right now. Do on search for SiPix Blink and there's a lot of info (mostly first impressions mostly as noted above) about it.

avoid sixpix, they absolutely suck. I got one from HSN after coupon a few months ago, and it was horrible. Picture quality was sooo poor that i returned it to them for that reason. They refunded me no problem though, thank god. just warning everyone, the quality sucks, not worth $20

I had the SiPix 2100 2.1MegaPixel camera, and it royally blew chunks. Not worth the $100 price.
The 2.1MP pictures were no better than the good Ricoh 300k pixel, 640x480 it replaced.
In fact the 640x480 Ricoh images were better than the SiPix 2100's.
I was wondering just how bad a true 640x480 version SiPix would look. Worse than a good 320x240?

But, even though SiPix is the Yugo of Digital camera's, for $25 and a decent small size, how bad can it be?
Also at that price, it won't matter much if you lose it or drop it overboard.

I went for it. Decided that if I didn't like it, the current going rate on ebay seems to be about $30, so I wouldn't lose much on the $22 I paid for it. I just wanted something tiny for the occasional spur of the moment, "did I really just see that" kind of snapshot. I'll probably just leave this thing in my cars glove compartment.

damn..and i bought a sipix digital camera from buy.com for $36.

it was also 640x480, 0.3m, 8megs ram. but the size was 3"x2"x1"

this is a better deal. but overall the pics from my camera suck indoors. not having a flash sucks bigtime. but if you dont need a flash, $36 is a good price, $23 is even better and it's also smaller!

It uses a CMOS sensor, as opposed to a CCD sensor. I've heard on this forum that CMOS is relatively quite inferior.

Well, I couldn't resist. Ordered one from HSN on a Fri, arrived following Monday.
Its actually pretty good considering the price. Also doubles as a webcam if
you're looking for one. Holds 100 640x480 pictures, 300 at lower res.

Took it to work. Passed it around throughout the day and then
we looked at the pics people took. Its a lot of fun. Now everyone that saw it
wants one, but it looks like HSN is out of stock. If this is any indication, this will
probably be a hot product when its more available.

Its small and easy to keep with you. Wife took had it for a day and had fun
taking quick pics throughout the day.

Pictures definetly benefit from bright light or daylight. Small. Fun. Cool.

I just tried to buy one, but the coupon code had no effect. The final price showed up as $47.80. I called HSN to cancel. After a reasonably short time on hold I was told by the rep that he couldn't cancel the order yet, that I would have to call back in 3-4 hours "after the order comes out" of their online system. So instead of a cheap camera I get my time wasted for free.

There are codes for $15 off for first-time buyers. I might try one of them after I get this order stomped and have more time to waste, and if I decide the camera might be worth it.
