I got the Panasonic and it is really good. It is a small unit just a little larger than a cell phone from five years back. They have a new unit that is supposed to be cell phone size as well. I got teh Panasonic radio from Ecost (tip from here) with a car mount and both were about $60.00. I got two of the car rigs since Ecost had them for $9.99. The price for the car rig could have been a mistake as they are something like $47.00 now. I use the one radio between two cars and ordered a home mount for another $42.00. The radio comes with a remote control and the programming includes a lot more than music and talk shows. I get almost everything there that I used SW for before. I love it! Sirius has several ways to scale the deal. I ordered 4 years and got the service for $126.00 per year. That brings it to XM price levels. you can get a lifetime deal for $399.00, I think. The hitch there is that it says "life of the radio". The way I read that, if the radio breaks, I am done. Sirius is already free on Dishnet, I think. I was visiting relatives in Omaha and found Sirius channels on their sat TV and they said it came with. Some of the negative stuff on this thread sounds like the stuff I was hearing in the early days of DOS (CPM would never go away - who here knows what CPM is these days?), the early days of Cable TV and those Laser Printers will just never work out. History is he_l when you have lived most of it.

The only issue I have with satellite radio is I can't see it becoming as mobile as a walkman. I would love to be able to take TalkRight with me everywhere I go!

You forgot IPOD. A music library on your belt or in your pocket. Car mounts, remote controls, intigrates into the entertainment system. I was using a notebook PC with a 100 gbyte USB drive for my juke box before I got the IPOD. I guess I will use it to control my radios or the house now that I don't need it for music anymore. Actually, I've wondered why I need the IPOD with Sirius able to connect to everything.

Correction - JVC, not Panasonic.

To clarify this deal -- It's a PNP tuner and 1 kit for $49. You do have to buy 6-months of programming, but this code does save you $100 on equipment. Activation is free on this deal.

Here's how to get it:
Go to SiriusDirect.

Enter 173 as the promo code. Select one of the $49 PNP units.

On the next page, you have to enter a referral id...I think any Sirius employee's email will work.

Great! Now clarify your title.

'Twasnt my title...

Stern is a unfunny, washed up hack... i find it pretty ironic that he announced he's switching to satellite on the 2nd day of O&A's return to XM ( who are more gooder on XM then they were on FM)

even stern can't save that sinking ship

SPREAD THE VIRUS

I don't remeber O&A signing with XM making the front page of every newspaper and a mention on every evening news. O&A is small time. O&A had no choice but Sat radio. O&A had no influence on Sterns choice. XM lost the deal. Stern will not charge a premium like O&A. $1.99 per radio to hear them? Give me a break.

I can't imagine Satellite TV or Cable TV (you probably need a long cable running from your car to the receiver in your house...I don't think Cable will work) in a car. Imagine driving around your vehicle and having your passengers watch Direct TV. Maybe in 50 years from now we'll have this technolgy. Maybe I'll be able to see this technology come to fruition

At least if they were going to pay someone 500 million for the next couple years, Sirius could have at least payed someone funny like Bob and Tom

But on a more serious note, what are the real differences b/t Sirius and XM? I've thought about getting sat. radio but haven't wanted to chuck out the 140 or so bucks a year for it yet.

On the music side, the only real difference between the two is that Sirius is more hit-based and XM plays more obscure tracks. On the talk side, Sirius has play-by-play for the NFL, NBA, NHL, and college sports from around 24 teams, as well as 2 NPR channels. XM has Opie and Anthony, and PAC-10 sports.

Those are the major differences, although I'm sure I've left something out...

Where have you been. You can get DirecTV in cars, boats, motorhomes and even airplanes. Ever flown JetBlue?

Sirius says they will start video feeds to the car in 2005. They are saying things like weather and traffic, but I would bet the sports will be close behind.

ok go to any electronics store and you can find a head unit to replace your current stereo that is sirius ready. then you have an upgraded car stereo, and then you have to but the modulator ($75) and the antenna ($25). and after that it is $13/month. for people who don't drive much, it's not worth it. but i drive a lot, and it's nice to be able to drive cross country and never lose reception. and by the way, on long trips, you run out of cd's to listen to. at least i do.

Sirius must not be sinking too fast...

Ford Motor Co. just climed in the bed with them...

Not to mention that Chrysler-Daimler (which would include Mercedes-Benz aka Daimler) is already behind Sirius.

And to the person who said "Pay for radio?...Why". Three words... Raw Dog Comedy.

But to get back on topic. This is not a bad deal. My head unit was $99.00 (Orbiter), the docking station was another $49.00 and a year subscription was another $150.00 for a grand total of $300.00 to get it all up and running. You do the math.

Apparently the cheapest deal now is for either the Audiovox PNP2 or the Clarion (which is not as big). You get both the receiver and one kit for free (either the car or home kit), with one year subscription paid in advance, which is 11.95 * 11 = 142.45 + S&H + activation (maybe $10??).

Second kit is $49.

Look for code.

More gooder? Is this a representation of O&A's audience?

I agree. Stern is unlistenable.

As for XM, Lil' Jimmy Norton is worth the $12/month alone.

I'm so glad O&A are back.
