I'm in for all the sirius love...

I've had Sirius since christmas 2002....less than 50,000 subscribers at that time..
over 5 million at last count...

Howard and Bubba are worth the price alone, add in the NFL, Nascar, all the COMMERCIAL FREE music, news, entertainment, yadda, yadda, yadda...

Listening now to Bonaduce on stern...best guest ever.

They've pulled out all the stops for the next couple of days, should make
for a good time for me at work..might want to clear my outlook calendar.

Also, there is ALWAYS something stern on..repeats, H101, shows like the
superfan round table (hey mutt!!!!), jackie's joke hunt, the great Riley Martin
is back, etc.........

If you don't have it, try it. If you want more than the internet streams,
then buy some hardware (it's pretty cheap). I have a car unit, with
a boombox so I can listen to it in the house, and another boombox to listen
to it at work, or I can listen to the live streaming over the internet with
the same account.... 4 places to listen to it, only paying for 1 subscription.

Sirius's online client is a hell of alot better than XM's. The music channels have twice the bandwidth and don't time out in a couple hours, I went to bed listening to their hard rock station and woke up with it still playing.

I have a question about Sirius's plans though. Looking on their website, it seems like buying a normal Sirius subscription doesn't come with internet radio. Do you need to pay for both separately?

A normal Sirius subscription includes the standard Internet Radio, which is a lower bandwidth version (32k on the talk channels, 64k on the music, from what I recall)... For $3 extra per month, you get the higher quality "premium" stream your hearing now...

I just added the Premium to my account a week or so ago, and didn't think I would like it, but WOW, the higher quality over the net makes a HUGE diff... I'll be keeping it.

But to answer your question, Yes, a regular subscription includes internet radio, albiet a lower quality stream.

Premium stream is definitely worth it if you're going to be using it for music instead of just talk.

HD radio is a joke. Same annoying commercials, same FCC control, same crappy programming, and typically expensive addons to aftermarket radio's (I think the Eclipse HD Radio addon is well over $400). All you get is better SQ, thats it. Not nearly worth it IMO.

I wouldn't pay extra for HD because of the commercialized junk, but if the next radio I buy has HD, and the local station I listen to goes HD, I'll welcome it. A buddy of mine has Sirius and it sounds pretty bad to me, even on the higher bitrate stations. It's nowhere near CD quality. And this is without an FM modulator. People complain about 128kbps MP3's and sat. radio is half that at best. Many say XM sounds a bit better than Sirius but I haven't heard XM.

Also, the top Denon and Pioneer Elite A/V receivers, both among the most popular out there for bang for the buck, only come with XM, as do many car stereos.

Another subscriber of Sirius, another fan of Stern. I also enjoy First Wave, Chill, Spa 72, and Buzzsaw. Playboy channel on the ride home is ........................nice.

Yeah, after listening to the internet feed today I think I will be coughing up the extra 50 bucks for the premium stream.

Sirius offers better content without question. The $500 lifetime deal blows away the $77/year/one time XM deal IMHO.

You do realize that the lifetime deal is only on the lifetime of the radio. So, if the radio dies, you can't transfer the deal to another radio. At least, this is the way it was about a year ago when my dad wanted to buy a lifetime subscription on his leased BMW. When the rep told him that, he declined. He is going to trade that thing in sometime next year. Why trade in a lifetime subscription on a radio he is going to replace or trade in? In order for you to recoup your investment, you have to keep that radio running for over 3.5 years or so. Anything less is a ripoff.

I prepay for 3 years in advance. That way, I save the most and I am not out that much in comparison. Plus, if I replace my radio or upgrade, I can transfer the plan over to the new radio at no charge. If I discontinue my service, I get a refund for all unused time.

Like other posters already mentioned, this is not true. You can transfer it up to 3 times, with a $75 fee.

I have Sirius in my factory-installed SAT car radio (Infiniti FX35) and I'm loving it. Since I'm planning on keeping the car for a long time AND I use it everyday, I did opti for the lifetime subscription. I figured that it would take me between 3 and 4 years to break-up (compared to yearly plans).

If something every happens to my car (stolen, totaled), which is the only reason why I would 'lose' my radio, I gladly transfer it to a new car.

Way to go Sirius. If XM signed Stern, Sirius would have been history.

This is not correct. HD Radio is commercial free for at least two years while it gets it feet wet. The sound quality is AMAZING, but the distance is shorter than the normal FM signal. It's only good for about 25-30 miles from the transmitter. The main channel kicks back to analog seamlessly. Most of the stations in my area (Boston) have interesting programming on their HD2 channel. Not as good as satellite, but it is free of a monthly charge. My radio (JVC HDR-1) is $199 all over the place and worth it IMHO.

Listened in to Sirius on the freebie for the first time. Man :laugh:my @ss off at their comedy line up! I'm hooked,looks like I'll be shopping for a radio and subscription soon. I've heard XM and was not to impressed,but gosh these dudes have the ship afloat!

I'd be curious about this, just because it's been my experience that broadcast radio more or less uniformly sucks nowadays. It seems as though they can't program the stations they already have with interesting material, so I'm wary of the idea of a technology that just creates MORE stations. I admit I'm a huge Stern fan, but I simply don't see how any censored broadcast station could play anything as entertaining as his show on Sirius.

You're right. I can compare XM20 to...any >90s station out there, which translates to the following slogan: "All hip-hop (but the same 20 damn songs), all the time, yo." Granted, I miss out on the radio contests that supply me with my tickets to the concerts I want to see (I have this ability to win when I decide to call), but enjoy the music much much more.

I've been a subscriber since last Christmas. I wish I would've bought the lifetime subscription instead of the one year I purchased, but I just didn't have the money.

You remaining subscription $$ will be applied to the $500. So if you had $100 left on your subscription, then you'd be charged $400 for the lifetime sub...
