Just another shout out to Sirius.. I got hooked when I listened to my brother's back in January when Stern and Bubba were just starting out.. My favorites: Stern and Bubba (Howard 100/101), Blue Collar, Raw Dog, Maxim, Faction, Alt Nation, and Octane.. and I can't listen to an FM radio anymore, it just doesn't happen.

EDIT: just wanted to note, not all talk channels are online.. all music channels are, i believe, and stern, raw dog, some news, etc.. but there are something like 120 total channels and 75 are online.. they also have a "premium" online subscription i dont know what exactly that entails..

I just switched to Sirius myself over XM because I thought their music line-up was sucktastic. Back when I went to XM, it was due to limited options. At the time (June 2004), the sat tuners for Sirius were having major problems. The one already in the Jeep got hot and would malfunction. I picked one up off eBay (a newer model) and it caught fire 15 seconds after getting juice. Got my money back on that one, and found that Ultimate Electronics had the same model in stock. 2 full boxes of tuners later (every one of them smoked immediately), and I went to an Alpine head unit with an XM tuner built-in. No problems since, except for how deep they go on the music, selecting tracks nobody wants to hear, and the Top20 channel playing the same damn "I got diamonds on my toofs" songs, I couldn't wait to switch. Now, I just have to run the line-in from my Replay to the head unit to get the better quality sound back, and it's all good. The only thing left is to cancel my XM.

Of the 14 presets I've already programmed, I can go to any of those stations and never want to change it unless I'm just in the mood for a different genre of music. Alt Nation and Octane are 2 of my favs also, along with the 80s/90s/Pulse stations, among plenty of others. I put my radio on my Dad's plan, so I have it for $80.66/year. w00t.

Sirius is the bomb!! Howard Stern and Bubba keep me company all day, the music cha nnels are great(First Wave my favorite). Nascar is coming in January. The programming is awesome, be sure to check out the Playboy Channel! I used to be addicted to AM talk, not anymore. Can't listen to regular radio any longer. I am a road salesman, spend lots of time in the car. Listen in my office on the web, it's great. I believe XM will die a slow death.

Go Sirius! I think the online-only subscriptions are a brilliant idea, especially given the number of Stern fanatics out there (myself included). I've been a Sirius guy for a year now and love it. The online subscription is a great way to keep up on Stern and get the other killer Sirius programming without a radio.

Just noticed when going into my online account that sirius added a bunch of new channels that are available online.. previously I couldn't get Blue Collar or Maxim radio.. both of those are now available along with a bunch more.. this is good news, since at works my radio sat receiver doesn't seem to be able to go through the glass on the windows.. strange.

EDIT: AH!!!! They've also updated the online version to include the name of the song and artist! This is definitely new, and it always annoyed me before that it didn't.. now the standard online version is just like having the radio, with maybe a few missing channels (of which I haven't noticed any because all my presets are on there now).. Loving this.

The internet-only subscription idea is great, I agree ... but why charge $12.95/month for just that? Too expensive IMHO.

That's a matter of perception, of course, but I imagine they feel there's no reason to discount it further, and risk alienating the 5 million people who have bought Sirius radios. I enjoy Sirius in my car, and now at home and work as well, because of the Internet feed - I love it all around.

Heh, I do the same thing with XM. To be honest though, I've probably used the internet stream option maybe a handful of times in the last couple years. I certainly wouldn't pay $12.95 just for the internet stream. But, yeah, IMHO of course

One thing Sirius offers over XM in that arena is that the Sirius Stilleto radio can receive a satellite signal or a wi-fi stream. Obviously if you bought an expensive radio like that, you wouldn't use it just for internet streaming, though.

NFL NFL

they really should extend this free trial through the weekend to let people get a taste of ALL the games being broadcasted.

Oh yea how true NFL and soon to be nascar, I have both and listen to neither now that i am in san diego, (some of the best radio stations). The few things i know xm has /had a $500 lifetime deal years ago thats how i got in, but its only the life of the radio, when my delfi radio crapped out after 3 months they tried to pull that crap on me, after a much heated tounge lashing i got it changed over and still have my delfi. the sirrius i am paying month 2 month and its been getting more $$$ each year. About the only things i listen to are comedy and theatre stations when i am bored. The one thing i dont like about sat. is the sound quality is crappy sound like slow mp3's

Has anyone heard the hd-radio yet, I like it not many stations yet but still some good stuff.

I've had both XM and Sirius, and I do believe Sirius is far better. I've switched long before Stern was even talking about switching to Sirius, so he was not my motivating factor. I don't even really like Stern too much, anyway. I enjoy Maxim Radio a lot, I'm listening to it right now! Octane, Hits 1, Pulse, Alt-Nation are my fav. music stations. Octane is by far the best if you enjoy rock music.

My only gripe with Sirius is the All Elvis and All The Who stations. I think those two channels are a waste of bandwidth. I'd rather combine The All Elvis and All The Who stations into an "All X" station and rotate out artists per week. The country station went "Strait Up" a few weeks ago and played nothing but George Strait for about four days in celebration of his new CD. That kind of upset me but I'm not a huge GS fan anyway.

HD radio is a joke. Same annoying commercials, same FCC control, same crappy programming, and typically expensive addons to aftermarket radio's (I think the Eclipse HD Radio addon is well over $400). All you get is better SQ, thats it. Not nearly worth it IMO.

I was going to add more praise for sirius, but it seems like there's already enough of that. Well, I'll do it anyway. I got sirius in mid-2004 after they started previewing it on dish network. Before that, my dad had xm in his car and it never really appealed to me. Now we both have sirius. The DJs and the music on 21 and 26 are (almost) all great.

Can't believe how long i've had it myself... I signed up back in mid 2003.

EDIT: Dang!! Just found this: "As of September 30, 2003, SIRIUS reported 149,612 subscribers." Didn't realize they were so young when i joined. I think we just went over 5 million.

Didn't howard stern say something about it being like crapping in a cardboard box instead of a toilet, lol

The left of center indie rock station is great.

HD Radio is a joke alright. And "joke" is the right word for it. I've had Sirius for over a year now and LOVE IT! I won't even consider a new car that only offers XM.
