I am thinking to buy a new motherboard and wondering what are the differences between the SIS 645 and SIS 645DX chipset? Both of them are capable to support DDR333MHz, but which one is better?
SiS 645DX brings 2 things to the table over SiS 645:
Official 533fsb Support (most SiS 645 boards however do 533fsb as well)
Unoffical DDR400 Suport.
You make the call, I wouldn't buy DDR400, I'd get a 850 mobo with Samsung PC800 RDRAM and oc to 533fsb+PC1066 RDRAM. That would crush any DDR setup, including DDR400.
But sources said that Intel is going to stop making Rambus RAM, and the future will be on DDR. Yeah, if you think about it, yoou need to pair up the Rambus RAM. First, that limits the upgrade option and secondly, it is costly.
SiS is also making a chipset that will uses Rambus memory so RDRAM has just as much of a future as DDRAM does. Have you check the price of RDRAM lately? If you had you'll see it cost just as much as DDRAM if not less. Two 128mb sticks of RDRAM cost less then two 128mb sticks of DDRAM or one 256mb stick of DDRAM, just check Price Watch.
