Cool,
I've ordered one, too. (GA-8SQ800) from Newegg.
Hoping to improve on my 2.66@3.68gHz, 19K+ 3dmk2001, 5741 3dmk03 scores.
Really curious to see if that NB is B0...

I doubt the different northbridge revisons will be too different performance wise - There's a pretty fair change that those on the market right now are with the A0 stepping - Debian could you plz check yours ?

How's the service from Cyberport btw. - I'm a little dissapointed about the lack of order tracking..

Hello Callesen,

I ordered my motherboard on friday, when it was still in stock.
The mainboard arrived on saturday.

I don`t know anything about Cybernet`s qualitiy in terms of service because it was my first-time-order there.
But until now everything seems to be okay !

Bye

Demian...was just checking out your mentor...I'll have to look at him in depth later. Post a thread about him in "Off Topic". Glad to see the GA-SINXP1394 is alive and well in Europe. I understand most of the world thinks The US is going to war with Iraq over oil? Hmmm, may be some truth to that, however I live not far from the WTC and can tell you what extremism can do. Oil however is not the answer to our problems. Burying our heads in the sand to aggression and dictatorship(Hitler) isn't the answer either.
Hope you enjoy the GA-SINXP1394...let us know how ya like it and what you find out about it....stepping and all.

Anyone got their $112 GA-8SQ800 from Newegg yet? I'll be getting mine mid week, I'll report if it is an A0 or B0.

Just spotted a very thorough review of all three SiS655 boards from Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI at x86-secret.com. They do HyperThreading Tests on the A0 revision of the Northbridge, and find that Gigabyte's workaround does work, though it disables certain APM features such as:
  • S3 suspend state (STR),
  • S1 wake on keyboard input,
  • and the 4 sec delayed power off.

The review is in french, but you guys will cope

It's especially interesting to note the SiS655's raw read and write bandwidth - read bandwidth is lower than the E7205 even when running DC-DDR333, whilst write bandwidth is much superior. I guess this more or less "evens out" any gains/losses from each.

There doesn't appear to be any real indication that the B0 stepping outperforms the A0 stepping either - Asus' board (B0 stepping) performs almost identically to the Gigabyte, which has the A0 stepping, and any performance difference can be easily attributed to the 135MHs vs 133MHz FSB (Asus vs Gigabyte, respectively) and BIOS tweaks employed by either manufacturer.

Unfortunately, the SiS655 does not seem to overclock terribly well, at least the Gigabyte and MSI boards (their Asus board had a duff BIOS, - they describe it as "catastrophically bad" and didn't correctly allow any adjustments of FSB, multiplier, etc. ). The Gigabyte and MSI boards both topped out at ~160MHz to 165MHz FSB, though they do not state which memory ratio this was at. I'd assume 4:5, as that's what all benchmarks were done at.

A very interesting read to pad out the time before Evan's Asus review and 800MHz/HT tests are done

Well that sucks...Thanks for the heads up Yozza. I don't speak french, so I'll not be "suffering" through it. I, without doubt, thank you for your intepretation of the post. So, from that information, which mobo in the SiS 655 offerings performed best? Also, how did the E7205 perform? Tit for Tat?

Thanks...

Did DDR 400 make any difference? As in Corsair XMS 3202v1.1? I'll be using 512Mb-3200C2(2 sticks) in my configuration...any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

What exactly is the "4 second delay shutdown"? Is it the auto shutdown when you click "Shutdown" without pressing the power button?

Evan...
Hope all is well(tests and all) I am severly pissed! I will assemble my system utilizing the GA-SINXP1394. We all know that at this point GB is just so much vaporware and isn't worth the price. Most of us have concluded that the release of Springdale/Canterwood will be the shitz. I am a newbie at this, but have already figured it out for myself( with help from you). As I can gather none of these mobos OC for shitz...results are less than disappointing. I hope you realize nobody can be mad at you, you do all that can be expected of you...don't think I'm sucking azz either! Lets face it, there is nothing out there right now that even begins to take our breath away on the p4 platform...or the p4m...does anyone else see a pattern here?

If u live in Australia the 8SQ800 is $259
8SQ800 Ultra is $339
SINXP 1394 is $459
U can get them from Synnex
A bit expensive for my liking (8INXP = $569)

New review!
Isn't it strange how the diff 655 boards perform differently in the benchamarks? Sometimes DC333 on one board will be DC400 on another board. Oh well.

Evan...how hot are these northbridge chips running? I notice that the Asus is using a passive hs whereas the 8SQ800 I've ordered has a hsf. Having gone almost deaf from my "wind tunnel, leaf blower" days running Athlons, I'm trying to build and almost fanless system. So far, I've watercooled my cpu and video card and eliminated all but one ('cept ps of course) 2600 rpm rear case fan.

This is where you have the dual function power button - press and release for suspend/hibernate, and press-hold for 4 seconds for power off.

Baiscally with the A0 stepping and Gigabyte's BIOS workaround, you lose power management functions. It does not seem to be a big loss for some people, but one should keep it in mind when purchasing an A0 stepping board such as the early Gigabyte ones.

The Gigabyte 8SQ800 Ultra that they tested and the Asus P4SDX performed virtually identically - any difference could easily be attributed to the higher FSB the Asus was clocked at - 135MHz FSB whereas the Gigabyte was at 133MHz. For example, their 3D Mark 2001 results show the boards being neck and neck as far as performance goes. Other benchmarks favour the Asus slightly, but again, I believe this is down to BIOS settings and the FSB advantage of the Asus.

As you can also see from the graphs, the SiS655 boards outperformed E7205 slightly, but the difference was not great. Of course, SiS655 boards are much cheaper, and should arrive in greater numbers than E7205 boards have thus far.

Unfortunately, they did not do any benchmarks, except for Sandra, at DDR400:
Bref, nous utiliserons le mode "par défaut" pour la suite de ces tests, c'est a dire le mode 128 bits (deux modules identiques) avec des modules DDR333.
They only did tests at the default setting of DDR333. However, I would except overclocking to be severely limited if you go with the 3:4 FSB:Memory ratio. Anything over ~150MHz FSB, I would expect the 4:5 ratio to cope better, especially with those low latency sticks you have . The boards seem to top out at ~165MHz FSB with the 4:5 ratio, ~180MHz FSB 1:1, and ~150MHz FSB 3:4.

I've just noticed that Evan's P4SDX review is on the front page now, so there's more data for us to sift through

If you look here, they seem to have measured the temperature of each major IC component on the boards. The Northbridge was at 41.5 degrees C, which is relatively cool. The southbridge was at 51.4 degrees C though - not so cool.

It would be nice to see Hard drive benches in the reviews.
Also I would like to see a 9700Pro used in comparision to Nividia's card.

Just ordered the 8sq800 from NewEgg... Does anyone one know how well the on-board sound performs? Mainly, is it anymore CPU-intensive than any old add-on PCI sound card? I have a plain ol' SB Live in my current system.

I'm showing them being out of stock for both the 8SQ800 and the Ultra2. You ordered it today?

Just got my new 8SQ800 system up and running - runs perfectly - had to take out my Leadman 550W PSU and put in an old Enermax 350W though to keep the system stable during gaming - go figure..
