Maybe its because "awesome dude" and "******" are two different words with different meanings. You guys get them confused and assume they are using the latter of the two, which by all accounts is incorrect. In reality the music and lyrics aren't really made for people of other ethnicities. Sure the beat is catchy and the chorus or hook makes you feel up beat or "some type of way", but in reality the lyrics themselves are mean't for people in their world. Just because you don't find it appealing doesn't mean it isn't good. The same could be said for any other genre of music, its a personal interpretation, much like a poem or painting.

Bottom line -- the people that consume rap music do not demand quality lyricism. It isn't that it doesn't exist. It just doesn't sell. Only some people will recognize names like Aceyalone, Gift of Gab, Emanon, or Jurassic 5. Instead all you hear is crap.

I've heard of the first two and dig Jurassic 5. That type of rap (hip-hop?) is the only kind I can listen to. Hieroglyphics and Del are great too (first Deltron 3030 album is a fricking masterpiece, second ain't too bad). Binary Star is another good one.

I think The Roots are probably the only "rap" group I've enjoyed much of their music. A few songs from the 80s, 90s as well, but it was usually just 1-2 songs and not their rest.
