SK6 question

I almost hate to ask this question but.....

I have an AthlonXP 1600 and a SK6 with a delta fan

Now the question is is the fan supposed to suck or blow?

Is it possible to fit a 80mm fan onto the SK6 (without the use of an adapter), as the high CFM 60mm are too lout for me.

Yes it is! If you do a search on SK6 in this forum, you should find some instructions.

Basically all you do is put the 80mm fan on top of the SK6 turned 45-degrees so it sits on it like a diamond instead of square. The two clips on each side of the SK6 hold 2 of the diamond points onto the heatsink. (instead of the clips going down two of the sides of a 60mm fan)

Works great, doing it myself. There is a little air loss doing this so you want to go with a higher CFM fan. My 80mm Sunon 42CFM fan cools as well as my 60mm Delta 38CFM screamer. Noise drops significantly, of course.

yeah i got a 80mm adda on too. but it was on square and the fan must have not been blowing through the fins because the temps got to 65deg Cel and I couldn't let it go that much higher so I had to shut down. I figure the adda prob has 30 cfms but doesnt give the air enough speed to push out through the fins so I think ill go with a 60mm Sunon or something like that and try it.

Not using an adapter worked a hell of alot better than using the $12 60mm-80mm adapter. I just used the same exact clips that I had.

i did the 45 degree trick with my sk6 and it now works great and is OH SO MUCH QUIETER than with the delta.

btw, anyone have any suggestions on what to do with this delta screamer?

Have any of you done this? I have the SK6 w/ 60mm 50CFM delta, and I have basically blocked out the sound, but if an 80mm would be quieter, or even cool better, I would like to switch..

What dBA level is that Sunon @ 50cfm? I'm sure most 80mm's would be quieter.

you could buy a high flow 80mm sunon from 2cooltek This guy lives near me and has very reasonable prices.
is the delta 60mm louder than 40 db?

The adapter works great for me.

I get about 5 degrees cooler with the adapter than without. This is with the exact same fan.
