HELL YES!!!! Read why...
This year will be my 8th season snowboarding. I bought a
Giro Nine helmet last year and it is the best purchase I have ever made in my life.
I've had way too many close calls in the past.
Incident #1
A couple of years ago I was in the halfpipe at night. I dropped in, hit the first wall and the next thing I knew it was a couple of minutes later and I was laying in the middle with a bunch of people around me. I have no idea what happened.
Incident #2
It was spring time and I caught my edge while going pretty fast. I ended up smashing my face into a rock that was jutting out of the snow. Thank god all of the contact was taken by my goggles and just the lens popped out.
Incident #3
Scariest moment of my life. I went off of a powder jump and my board sheared the top right off. I did an enormous front flip and landed on the back of my neck. I got up but fell over because I was shaking so bad. I've had very slight blurred vision in my left eye ever since. (I've had it checked out and they cant find any sort of nerve damage or anything)
I've also had numerous blackout incidents all from hitting my noggin on ice.
I actually wanted to buy a helmet 2 years ago, but there wasn't really anything available except for expensive Burton ones. It seems that last year there was an explosion of them. I also noticed that a lot more people are starting to wear them and that it's becoming standard.
Anyways, check out the Giro helmets. There are tons of good reviews of them online. They've been making bike helmets for years. The helmet is feather light and is extremely comfortable, I can't even tell that I'm wearing it. It has removable ear flaps and the ventilation is awesome. It also looks pretty cool and I never have to worry about finding my goggles! I picked it up for $99CDN.
Anyone here ride on the Vancouver local mountains BTW?
