And, yes, most African-Americans have this fixation on some type of reparations because of slavery. That, and the myriad excuses for their continuing poverty, although some are very legit. Fact is, responsibility and accountability are the basis for getting out of the dirt, not hand-outs.
You need to lose that ante-bellum attitude immediately. I find your statements very offensive.
Most "African-Americans" are fixated on reparations??? How many African-Americans have you polled? How many African-Americans do you know? How many have you told they are fixated on reparations face-to-face?
I haven't once in my life heard anyone I know mention reparations. Suggesting such is nothing more than perpetuating racial stereotypes that are so deeply entrenched in the indoctrinated, that would include you, that you give no thought to expressing them publicly in the most insidious, offensive, embarassing fashion.
And the embarassment is in watching you unconsciously, publicly reveal your own stereotypical behavior.
"Their continuing poverty," "some are very legit"!
You couch your problem in those terms very well. Thank you for conferring legitimacy on some. Makes all those illegitimate ones in the dirt than much easier to hate, right? Down there in the dirt, irresponsible, no-accounts waiting for that hand-out.
I suppose you don't consider yourself a racist, do you? I'll even bet some of your best friends are black. (Hell, you're a Republican, maybe you're black. The Bush administration would just LOVE you!)
Why don't you run that by your African-American friends one of these days? Unless they're Bush cabinet choice types I'm certain you'll get an interesting reaction.
If you want to know where the real hand-outs are coming from and going to check out the federal government's tax redistribution program.
PS Welfare was reformed years ago. But for some reason you still have that welfare mentality. Here is some good advice. Lose it.
