Well, I scheduled the girlfriend and I for our first sky dive on Sunday.
We'll be jumping in Cushing, OK. at 10:00AM.

I'm trying to talk her into letting me do the accelerated freefall program but she's making me go tandem first... which means I'll have a dude strapped to my back.

Anyone ever been before? What was your experience like?

-chris

UPDATE::

OH MY GOD!

That was simply amazing. There is no way that I could completely describe the experience other than that it was the singe most terrifying yet most exhilarating moment of my life.

We arrived at Cushing airport at 9:30AM wanting to be a little early for everything. But, due to high winds and limited visibility they grounded everyone for a while. It was hit and miss for a few hours with other jumpers going ahead of us. When it was our turn to jump, she wanted to go first because she was afraid she wouldn't go at all if she didn't. When she got on the plane she looked like she was going to cry, but when she came back to the hangar she was nothing but grins!

The most terrifying moments of my experience where riding in that bumpity ass little plane for the first few thousand feet, when they popped the door and it was suddenly all too real, having to put my foot out of the cabin and on to the foot rest, doing the flip out of the plane -seeing the plane above me and nothingness all around me and thinking "WTF!?"

But, man It was just amazing; the rush of the wind all around me, the view, the weightless feeling, and the peaceful swinging under the canopy were all amazing.

Andy jumped with both of us and Sean was the videographer. Matt, Andy says your a character and no, he didn't call you a p*ssy.

If you've never jumped before, stop saying, "I want to skydive before I die." and just get out there and do it. The guys at www.oklahomaskydiving.com were all very friendly and informative. They definitely know their stuff and I know I'll be going back soon.

In the plane
Oh crap...

remember to cut a little hole on the back of your outfit for the guy to put his penis while he rides you through the air, plus you can cuddle afterwards how sweet!

really really reallly not scary

depends on your attitude i guess... i had a passive acceptance so it was very much like "well, im already here, i already paid, might as well exit the plane"

you only get a sensation of falling for about 3-4 seconds when you accelerate, then its constant speed for the rest of the free-fall, where all you feel is wind rush at 120+mph past your face. youre still too high up to get a visual sense of flying through space... very relaxing, actually

the fun part is AFTEr the canopy's deployed

It's a blast - I'd do it again if it didn't cost so much. The day I did it I rode my motorcycle out, jumped, and rode back. Good adrenaline rush all around.

I have a request. Would you consider diving without pants and taking a dump in mid-air?

This would be funny to me.

First time I read that I thought you rode your motorcycle off the plane in the air, then jumped off your motorcycle and pulled chute. It was an awesome mental picture.

Like others have said, it is not bad at all. I'm serious.

IMO, roller coasters give a much more jarring experience than skydiving with the seated orientation when you drop and all the twists and turns. If you've ever been dropped from one of those Power Tower things or Elevator of Death or something you'd know that you're seated upright during the drop. This gives a greater sense of falling.

When you skydive your body is horizontal, and to tell you the truth when I did it I didn't even feel anything even remotely close to the sensation of falling in a roller coaster. Hell, you know when you're driving and suddenly you drive down the steep side of a hill and your body kinda clenches up from that floating sensation? Didn't even have that feeling.

It is very much a feeling of complete freedom. It's so nice and relaxing. And when the parachute opens you're just floating and it's very quiet and peaceful. Your instructor may want to do a few corkscrews with the parachute though, but these aren't bad.

The one thing that I really like is if you're diving with other people. If you open your parachute first, from your perspective everyone else just plummets at an insanely high speed away from you. In less than a second they are just a speck due to the sudden speed differential.

Hmm... I was thinking about selling my bike, but that would be an even more fun way to take care of it.

If there would be some way to take my dog, I'd totally do it.

My first was a static line jump. We actually had about 4 hours of instruction before the jump. If your doing a tandum, maybe the classes aren't soo long. I signed two different "Your screwed if something goes wrong" releases right after paying the money. AND, the first video in our class was a lawyer telling you "Your screwed if anything goes wrong", and of course, another release.
There was five of us crammed into a two seater plane, that only had a pilots seat. The rest of us were on the floor. The pilot was wearing one of those fornacating skeleton tshirts and smelled like he drank his lunch. Because this little plane was way overloaded, it took every inch of the bumpy grass runway to get in the air. About halfway down the runway, the glove box door popped open. I was in the front "seat", next to the pilot, and looked in the glove box to see the biggest rats nest of spliced and taped wires I've ever seen and an empty can of Bud. The pilot looked at me, smiled a toothless smile, reached over and closed the door.
The plane didn't have a door on my side and when it was time to go, he throttled down, I stepped outside the plane and hung from the wing strut 'till the instructor shouted "Go".
The static line opened the chute, and I had radio communications with the ground spotter.
I could hear the irritation in his voice when I started manuvering on my own rather than complying with his instructions.
I landed about 5 feet from the landing spot and won the case of beer.
Out of the four of us that jumped, one landed in a cornfield with a stock where the sun don't shine, one hurt his back, and one was scared to death. I was the only one wanting a return trip.
I found it to be a major Rush!

hanging outside of the plane, and the initial fall is priceless.

Going tandem is more like an amusement park ride than anything, but still a crazy rush.
