Skyline Chili is.....

I got an unexpected bonus when visiting the in-laws yesterday. We were talking about chili and I mentioned how much I loved and missed skyline chili - to which my mother-in-law replied "Oh, yeah. I've seen some cans of those at the Meijer's just down the street"



Having arrived home today I quickly unloaded my bag of cans and got to work on my 4-way chili delight. It was as good as I remembered....

It is amazing. A few years ago, I flew out to Cincinatti to visit a client for a week. I think my per diem for that trip was about $65/day. I think I spend at least $10/day on Skyline chili.

Like most fast food restaurant ads, what you get is not exactly like the photos - there's not this much cheese. Regardless, it's damn good and I miss it. Krogers was stocking frozen skyline 3-ways here for a while but it must have been to much for the cultured southern palate. It amazes me that some who worship at taco bell and mcdonalds turn their noses up at skyline. None of it is good for you but the taste sensation is worth the sin.

No, it's meat + spices, which is all Chili's supposed to contain. Weather people like it or not is one thing, but it's definitely more authentic Chili than that shit with beans in it people try to pass off as Chili when it's not.

Also Cinnamon is a SPICE, Chili is supposed to contain spices, and there aren't set rules as to which spices you use. So even with Cinnamon it's still truer to what Chili's supposed to be than that bullshit with beans in it.

It may be a spice, but I hate it when it's mixed with meat. I also hate grape leaves for this reason (they use all-spice with that as well---yuck. Tastes like rancid meat).
