Another thing I did with MS 2001 was right click on cd, and selected install GPS software.

I just called Etak support and the woman I spoke with took my name and email address and said that I would be emailed within the month informing me that NT support is available. I'm not sure if it's a patch that we can download or not but we'll find out soon.

By the looks of these documents, I wouldn't expect the ETAK GPS unit to work at all with MS Streets & Trips 2001. But obviously, some people have got it to work. Hopefully this info will help some of us.

Holy shiznit! I was able to get it to work in Win98 and WinNT by using the GPS install program found on the MS Streets and Trips install disk!

$85 or $10....still a good price either way you look at it(IMO). The Skymap software is pretty sweet. Of course it only works with Win9x. Using Skymap, your location is updated every second, it tells you your speed(mph), and elevation. The voice recognition is kewl too. Using the Microsoft Streets and Trips is not as kewl but seems to be more accurate. Using MS S&T, your location is updated every 15 seconds.(not as kewl as once per second). Since I use my NT laptop more than my Win98 laptop, I'm forced to use MS S&T 2001 until Etak provides NT support. But I'm not complaining.

Zero: I'm glad you found that driver install too! Someone over on sci.geo.satellite-nav mentioned it too...

For everyone else - Microsoft Streets & Trips 2001 has an additional driver install for a bunch of GPS units somewhere on the CD (on the root of it perhaps?). I didn't get a chance to check it out yet but maybe zero can tell us where it is exactly....

Glad it is working for you! I've been playing with my Garmin eTrex so I haven't had a chance to try it yet...

You're right CMV. On the MS S&T 2001 INSTALL cd(in the root directory), you will see a folder labled "GPS". You can't miss it. In that folder is a setup.exe. I just double clicked it and away I went.

Netbate Rebate still available and it is handled by Continental Promotion Group (CPG) and they will honor the Rebate. So

Rebate is mailed to CPG (Continental Promotion Group). They are given the money in advance by Sony/Etak. Etak is not involved in actual processing. CPG handles hundreds of this. They do not scan UPC and they said that they will honor. Just

Ok. For all those who are in the PCMCIA $75 rebate problem here are the FACTS


If you purchased the PCMCIA version of the SkyMap2000 GPS unit during the advertised rebate period (before the rebate was pulled from site....orders placed aftwards not eligible for rebate) and have rebate form, and original UPC code this is what you do.

Two Paths:

1: You already sent in UPC, rebate form, and receipt.
NetRebate will reject this rebate. When you get it back, take all documents and fax to Paul Ruyle. Fax#949-252-1452, w/ ATTN: Paul - Rebate GPS on cover page.

2: You haven't sent in UPC, rebate form, and receipt.
Fax them as above in step #1.


After 3-6 weeks, a check should arrive.

BTW, he said I could post this to better help people. He could not guarantee a rebate until all forms were evaluated for legitimacy. He recommends you email him to verify status before sending in the fax.

to use it on Street n' Trips, it's easiest to just call the SkyMap people.

Ask for the Global-roaming fix...they were TOP NOTCH in helping me get my GPS unit to work.

Can't wait till they put out a Win2K fix...
