That would be true if PC gamers weren't all bark and no bite. As long as they are buying half backed console ports however, I don't personally regard them as any sort of threateningly intelligent consumer group.

why not? i had a $20 gift card to best buy. got my copy for $40 cash out of pocket when it would have been $60 on steam.

Are there any figures for DD sales yet? I would not be suprised if the DD sales were 3x or more then hard copy sales.
When I picked up my hard copy of Skyrim I was the only person there out of maybe 70 people getting the PC version.
Its definitely not that high, like I said DD sales are popular in the US -- but not as much elsewhere due to bandwidth metering and for some reason steam prices are more expensive than retail in most EU countries. Still though, i'd guess the number is around 300k sales via DD in the US, with more elsewhere. I'm just guessing.
That puts the PC version awfully close to the PS3 version in sales, which is very impressive! SWTOR also sold 1.8 million copies in its first week (retail boxed, not counting DD). I guess PC gaming isn't dead after all boys

I think you're underestimating digital sales. Steam itself has been doubling its sales every year for seven straight years, so it probably sold close to million copies of a top selling title like Skyrim alone.
Estimates on 2009 numbers puts retail and digital PC sales at about equal. I'm sure digital has gained an even larger chunk of the since then. All in all, I'd say Skyrim on PC very likely beat the PS3 in total sales.
Its not surprising. DD isn't very popular outside of the US for 2 reasons:
1) Bandwidth metering is very common in a lot of countries.
2) Boxed games are cheaper in Europe (most of the time) than DD.
Still, it is not uncommon for 50% of US sales to consist of DD. With Witcher 2, nearly 70% of total US sales was DD.
