I don't know if you are trying to be funny but it doesn't not devalue my opinion. I liked the Oblivion experience a lot more on the 360 and because of that, I will get Skyrim on the 360 as well. Secondly, your smartass statement would make more sense if I preferred ice cream in a cone vs a cup so I decided to get ice cream in a cup from now on.

well you came to a pc forum

ask same question in ps3 site

This is the console gaming forum. But I'd guess many people here have PCs as well, and may even play games on them too. So people here are less biased than a forum dedicated solely to fanboys for a particular gaming platform.

PC no question. Oblivion was a unplayable mess on the PS3 without mods(i own both Ps3 and PC versions of oblivion)

If i have lerned anything about the TES series its that the game is a buggy mess for months after launch and that they all require mods to fix game breaking issues that they never seem to address with official patch's.

1. It was a joke, calm down man.

2. No, Oblivion on console is definitely closer to eating ice cream in a shoe than in a cup.

I found what you said hilarious as I'm sure most did. Not being able to get into the same game but with better mods, graphics and no need to stick in a disk (Steam) all while using the same controllers and TV screen also is pretty silly.

He probably just gets really into Xbox live gamerscore points

What was wrong with Oblivion on the console? I played Oblivion on the 360 quite extensively and very much enjoyed it. What was supposedly unplayable about it? Or was something in the ps3 version broken that wasn't on the 360?

I gave up on pc gaming, ends up getting too pricey and time consuming always trying to get the last ounce of performance out of it. Life became much less stressful when I can be perfectly content with on-board video.

well at least theres some amount of resale value for console games. Though i prefer to just rent them. IF i really like it after a rental week or two, i usually get the PC version. CHeapest, most economical way to do gaming these days. rent it first, then buy best version. keep it simple

Did you not read the thread?? It's been mentioned everywhere.

It's not that anything is particularly wrong with console versions, just in this case, from almost EVERY angle, it's going to be inferior to what the PC version will offer.
How inferior? Read the thread.

I was mostly asking Dumac with that question, as earlier on he said "Bethesda console games are vastly inferior, and in Oblivion's case, unplayable." I didn't find Oblivion unplayable at all, so not sure what he's talking about. I didn't see any other mentions in this thread either, except lack of mods (which I couldn't care less about honestly, I'd never use them on the PC either probably), and graphics. But like I said, I don't keep a top of the line system with a video card that costs more than my console, so that's kind of a moot issue for me too.

The only thing that was worse on the PC port of oblivion was the lack of 360 controller support. I get pain in my wrist using a mouse for extended gaming sessions so I like the option of using a controller. The PC version of Fallout 3 had 360 controller support so hopefully Skyrim will too.

I expect that the PC version will provide the most complete experience for pc gamers, but I voted PS3.

I tried to get into Morrowind in 2002 or 2003 on my PC. I was married but unaccompanied on my second tour in Korea with my own apartment waaay away from my friends and coworkers, so I had every opportunity to play. My PC had the then awesome Radeon 9700 Pro, so the graphics were really good. However, I just couldn't get into the game and just stopped after maybe a week of giving it a try. For reference I really enjoyed No One Lives Forever 2 around that time and played it to completion.

I have had a PS3 for maybe 1.5 years now and over the summer picked up the Greatest Hits version of Oblivion. I have easily logged 80 hours on it now and have plenty more to go. My wife is mildly interested in the story and so doesn't mind if I have it on the big screen for a few hours at a time.

As it is, I gave away that nice PC in 2006 and replaced it with a Macbook Pro which is still my main machine. I don't see myself building a gaming rig anytime soon, so I ordered Skyrim for PS3 from Newegg with the $12 discount on Sunday (thanks to the hot deals forum).

Sounds good. Also, nice discount.

For me, and I know many others, vanilla Oblivion was unplayable. I have hundreds of hours in Daggerfall and Morrowind, but the extreme scaling of Oblivion made the game unenjoyable. I couldn't bring myself to play anymore. as the level scaling and leveling system and random generation of dungeon/enemy content ruined every aspect of the game for me.

Thank god some talented modders came along and fixed everything, making Oblivion an okay/good game.

I'll probably be getting it for my 360, even though my pc can run it. It's something that I can't quite explain but I just enjoy games more on my xbox. I can just sit back and enjoy the game for what it is, rather than trying to get the best performance and best graphics and get all the mods that I want and make sure they work properly. I just spend more time fiddling with settings and mods on the pc than actually playing the game and having fun. When I try and max the graphics but realize that my pc can't handle everything maxed, I get disappointed and find myself wishing that I could run the game better, rather than just accepting it for how it looks and moving on.

I also like to just sit on my couch with a controller and relax and play the game. Sure I can hook up a controller to my computer and run the game on my tv instead, but I have to switch main displays (fucking up my window sizes and icons, and then even after setting my monitor as main display sometimes programs will just decide to open on my tv instead), and it's a hassle getting games to work on a 42" 720p tv with rectangular pixels.

Maybe in a year or so when all the best mods are out and working great and all the unofficial patches are out, I'll pick up the game for cheap on the pc and fool around with mods then.

This, honestly. Also, my wife enjoyed watching me play Oblivion on the 360 and she's looking forward to watching me play Skyrim. That's not as easy to do with a PC.

Hands down PC will be technically superior, but the console version does have some intangibles going for it.

Honestly, these games always have something annoying about them that mods take care of (fucking oblivion gates), or unofficial patches, or just sweet mod content.

I wish I still had a good PC but ill get it for ps3 since I don't.

wouldnt she enjoy to actually play it more than just watch it? kinda more engaging experience that way.

Sure some people found it unplayable, but the game has sold so many copies on consoles that are vanilla only that this opinion must belong to only a small minority.

People that can't handle the game without mods have to get it on the PC and then have the techinical know-how to install the mods. I do not believe many want to deal with that.

This leads me to the conclusion that Oblivion was a great game that many people played without mods and enjoyed it and that those that say Oblivion is "unplayable" without mods represent a small population.

Wives can be strange like that. Mine for example, is too intimidated by what appears to be too many buttons on the controller to try any games. Except for the Lego Harry Potter and Indiana Jones games.

Basically anything that requires careful timing or pretty much any jumping in a 3D game is out of the question.

Bethesda utterly detests the PS3 and its' users, they don't even try to hide it.

Look to the embarassing Fallout debacle. Bethesda's track record for consoles overall is embarassing(the original Morrowind replaced ET as the example I use for poorest coded console title ever), the PS3 they just tell users to go f*ck yourself, we got your money.

If this was a 360 or PC question, I would still say go PC, but anyone who buys a Bethesda game on the PS3 at this point is just asking to be ripped off. Bethesda hates the platform and its' uers.
