Most of the time I like to play these type of games on my PC, but the problem is I really don't have the time to go turn on the PC and play. For the last year and a half it has been easier to flip to the PS3 and play games from there. And DLC for the PS3 is also quicker for me to buy. I found it annoying during DA there were nag characters to go on this quest or that one and I would have buy DLC for a PC game.

What will I be missing If I get this on the PS3 vs PC?

PC, no question. Bethesda games are so much better with mods - partly because they're mod-friendly and have a large community, and partly because they ship in a broken state and modders have to go in and fix things.

I tell you, it's wonderful in Fallout New Vegas to be able to just give myself another copy of a unique weapon when my companion drops it for no reason. If I was on a console, I'd have to revert to an earlier save.

How is this even a question??

If you have a PC capable of running it (not a rare thing), PC blows the console versions out of the water.

One words: Mods. User created items, skins, quests, weapons, lands, communities, buildings, magic, tweaks, fixes, balances....the list just goes on and on. Plain and simple. The MYRIAD mods for Oblivion (PC) and Morrowind make both those games SO much better, and extend their lives TENFOLD.
Sure, the PC will also be technically superior, and Kb+mouse will be vastly better to control, but the modding ability clearly makes it a no-brainer.

I'll probably be getting it for my 360, even though my pc can run it. It's something that I can't quite explain but I just enjoy games more on my xbox. I can just sit back and enjoy the game for what it is, rather than trying to get the best performance and best graphics and get all the mods that I want and make sure they work properly. I just spend more time fiddling with settings and mods on the pc than actually playing the game and having fun. When I try and max the graphics but realize that my pc can't handle everything maxed, I get disappointed and find myself wishing that I could run the game better, rather than just accepting it for how it looks and moving on.

I also like to just sit on my couch with a controller and relax and play the game. Sure I can hook up a controller to my computer and run the game on my tv instead, but I have to switch main displays (fucking up my window sizes and icons, and then even after setting my monitor as main display sometimes programs will just decide to open on my tv instead), and it's a hassle getting games to work on a 42" 720p tv with rectangular pixels.

Maybe in a year or so when all the best mods are out and working great and all the unofficial patches are out, I'll pick up the game for cheap on the pc and fool around with mods then.

PC.

Bethesda console games are vastly inferior, and in Oblivion's case, unplayable.

If a game is multi platform, I'll usually get it for PC, barring some rediculous DRM scheme. Better graphics, mods, cheats, tweaking. So much more you can do with the platform.

As for Oblivion's console performance issues, PC had the same problem. Gamebryo is a really crappy engine. Multicore performance is horrendous, and it's very glitchy. Skyrim uses a whole new engine, so it shouldn't have the same issues.

I guess it calls for the individual's preferences. If you are not the type the plays enough PC games to have the same quality experience of it on a console, I would suggest just getting it on the console.

Although, from what I've heard Bethesda is really making an attempt to make this incarnation more mod friendly. The mods for The Elder Scrolls games have extended it's shelf life well beyond what it normally would be without the fantastic community it has.

I'm generally the lazy sort, I prefer to crash on the couch and use the consoles. But in regards to Bethesda games, PC would be the better choice here.

Reason I believe is clear by now, but here it is again: mods.

I take it you mean console versions are inferior not superior

Mentioning mods, I never even used them and yet I still enjoy playing oblivion to this day.

Yes. I was on the phone while typing, and wasn't thinking fully.

If you want to play it sitting on the couch, just plug your console controller in your pc rig. Oblivion had an option to use a controller, so I'm guessing Skyrim will probably have one too (even if it doesn't, there are apps that allow you to emulate a K&M on a controller, eg. xpadder).

I purchased Oblivion for both the PC originally and then the 360 about a year later. I just could not get into playing games on the PC. I will also get Skyrim for the 360 and if I'm interested in a year, pick it up for $20 on the PC when Steam is having a sale.

The PS3 version is like the PC version smeared with vasoline, low resolution and ugly.

PC will use Steam so DLC is pretty easy to get if you want it.

PC. If you want to play with a gamepad and on your TV... just plug in your controller to your PC and the PC to a TV :awe: That's what I'm doing!

You don't have time to turn on the PC and play games.

You have time to turn on the PS3 and play games.

How do you manage a life in which you have time and no time to do the same thing?

everyone is saying "mods", but won't the truly good mods, the ones that balance the game not be released for six months or so? by then, I'll be long done with this game.

I purchased vanilla ice cream in both a cone originally and then a shoe about a year later. I just could not get into eating ice cream out of a cone. I will also get chocolate ice cream in a shoe.

Well, I guess in your situation it's different. I never buy games at launch because they're too expensive. Wait a few months, buy it for $20, mods will already be available, plus most release-day bugs should be fixed.

I don't know if you are trying to be funny but it doesn't not devalue my opinion. I liked the Oblivion experience a lot more on the 360 and because of that, I will get Skyrim on the 360 as well. Secondly, your smartass statement would make more sense if I preferred ice cream in a cone vs a cup so I decided to get ice cream in a cup from now on.

In the console forum, no less.

OP, I think you have your answer.

PS3..cause i can rent it and beat it all the while spending far less money to do so.
Theres only a small few games i actually purchase these days thanks to GameFly. and thats usually PC titles that i have a reason for wanting on PC rather than console.

when mods and stuff come out and i want to play it again, then i'd get PC version.
