I installed a TON of the texture mods and it made things look beautiful (using that Texture Combiner Mod). Then I tried RCRN and I'm not so sure I liked what it did. Everything seemed too bright and sharp. Even messing around with the settings I couldn't find a place where I liked the look of the game.

I am running the Realvison ENB now with COT and RLO. I gotta say it's the most beautiful I have seen the game, but the performance is not very good, even on a GTX 780 @ 1080P. I may be going to 2560X1440 soon, so I will give this RCRN a look. I really like the customizer they have with it. Does anyone have an opinion on how the RCRN FXAA looks compared to Skyrim's own MSAA?

What are you running for texture and script packages?

The problem with the mods like Frostfall and Wet and Cold is that those scripts are constantly running in the background. That can eat away at performance and cause instability in the game. While I like the concepts behind them, I opted to remove them from my game because I'd rather the game be more stable for other mods. I quickly found that Frostfall became rather tedious as well.

I actually saw a really nice boost in performance once I activated RealVision ENB. When I was just running all the texture packs I have installed, I'd get massive FPS drops at random times and loading screens took 10-15s at times. If you haven't, make sure you go in the enblocal.ini file (Skyrim main folder) and set your VideoMemorySizeMb to RAM+VRAM-2048. By default it installs at 1024 and once I set that to 7168 the loading times dropped to 3-4s and I get almost no FPS drops.

Also Mod Organizer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nexus Mod Manager.

I don't have any extra scripts running to my knowledge. My game is very lore friendly, as most of my mods are purely graphical. I have every texture mod under the sun and the highest I can get, 2K or 4K. I am using an Ini file from the Realvison ENB download page. The video memory is set to 4GB. Also keep in mind I have the full version with adds SSAO, DOF, Sweet FX etc... I tried RCRN and I like it okay, I am sticking with it for now, the performance is much better.

Just tried out Kountervibe ENB. Holy! It really gives off the fantasy vibe with its settings. Unfortunately, my puny card melts if I'm trying to do anything other than slowly turn or walk even on the lowest settings provided. Gonna have to wait until I upgrade the card to use it.

Again, this is why I have recommended avoiding the EMB's. Yes, they LOOK awesome, but they PLAY like crap. If you can't get a steady 40+ frames per second (with no dips below 30), then it is worthless to play the game. They are great for taking a staged screenshot, but otherwise useless.

Agreed, they are really hard to run @ 60fps, and that's what Skyrim needs all of the time IMO or at least 50-60fps. The dips in the 30 and 40's are really felt. I am using RCRN now, I like it so far. Check out the video in my sig to see how my current card handles it. Talk about a monster

It depends on your hardware setup and the particular ENB you're attempting to use. Not all of them are intense. ENBs like TrueVision and RealVision are minor tweaks to apply sharpening, minor bloom, DOF, and some small filters. I can run those just fine in a playable state. But the ENBs such as Kounter which do SSAO, SSIL, SMAA, DOF, tons of bloom, lots of filters, shaders, etc will require a 700 series card with 4GB VRAM to play at anywhere close to max settings.

On another note, Sounds of Skyrim is an awesome sound mod. Really makes forests come alive with creature sounds and dungeons feel more spooky.

I ran the Realvison with FULL (RLO/ELFX + CoT + Bokeh Depth of Field + SSAO + EdgeAA + SMAA + Lumasharpen + IBL @ 1080P with an overclocked GTX 780 and it still would dip into the high 20's FPS in certain areas. Once you remove DOF and SSAO with the performance version it gets better but it just makes the the game look brighter.. kinda looks meh :\ in comparison. RCRN isn't half bad, it's a nice compromise while still be able to maintain 60FPS for the most part and dips into the 40's now and then. It also could be the grass mod I am using is killing the FPS? Outside of Riften, in the forest it gets into the 40's even with RCRN.

Little nuances I'm picking up a whole year later:

Never took pick-pocketing seriously until recent characters. Found out that most guards have excellent tattoos and scars.
Also tons of poor people carry around diamond rings. Which makes no damn sense but whatever.

You might need to start looking into optimization things if you haven't already. DDSopt is a program that optimizes all the textures so they aren't as huge a memory hog. All of the vanilla stuff and most texture packs (HD2K, SRO, Serious HD) can benefit from being run through it. I don't know how much digging through the various INI files you've done but there's tweaks you can do here and there. There's also a few optimization mods out there.

The other thing that ENBs allow for is parallax mapped textures. Basically a fancy way of making the surfaces of "bumpy" textures (cobblestones, bricks, shingles, etc) look more 3D like. Also makes water look much better.

And I always run without DOF because I don't think the effect is good at mimicking what the human eye actually does and so breaks my immersion. My eyes are naturally doing it to some extent anyway as I focus on something on one part of the screen.

How intelligent is the NMM? I mean, if I download all the mods listed in the post on the previous page but in the wrong order. Can it fix it by itself?

It can get most of them right. There are some it can't (especially if they are newer), but on the web page it should say where they need to be in the list so you can manually put them there.

On the nexus check out Interesting npc's. Great mod that adds a ton of professionally voice acted npc's and some quests.

NMM won't do load order by itself I don't think. You need to get BOSS and when it runs, it will resort NMM for you.

Got a new video card for Christmas. I'm now running Kountervibe ENB (default settings) @ 1080p with an acceptable 30-40fps. Outdoors is generally on the lower end and indoors higher. Makes the game look absolutely gorgeous paired up with all the 2K textures, parallax mapping, Enhanced Lights and FX, and Climates of Tamriel.

Ditto, SkyUI takes like forever to open up the vendor or any inventory screen.
I couldn't disagree more. SKSE & SkyUI are the most awesome things created for Skyrim. I wouldn't play the game without SkyUI, and I've been playing & re-playing since it came out. Of course, this is my opinion & your mileage may vary.

On another note, my new favorite mod: Thomas the Tank dragon re-placer. I'd put in the link - but I'm at work and can't get to SkyNexus. Do a search & you'll find it.

I had issues getting skyui to work until I loaded it with nmm and then had nmm launch Skyse. Then everything was smooth as butter.

I tried RCRN and it immediately made everything very DARK ( and set on legacy)...so dark I could not see anything in the Helgen Keep (Unbound). The only way I could find the chests was the white cursor leading the way. I had no other mods installed.Did I do something wrong? Another setting I missed? I uninstalled RCRN and could then see where I was going. Ideas?

I also got Skyrim for PC during the Steam sale. I've played in on the XBox and enjoyed it. I wanted to see how good it looked on PC. I've gone crazy at Nexus installing mods, but I'm not sure what an ENB is. It seems like it's another level of graphics overhaul.

I already have the enhanced textures and wires installed as well as body updates and UI improvements like SkyUI. What would I get if I install RealVision?
