After 60+ hours, 577 saves and countless dragons slain I present to you my Skyrim Review. I tried to cover as much ground as I could with the time I had--hope you enjoy.

"It wasn’t until I ascended the frigid 7000 steps of the Throat of the World and made my way to the doorstep of High Hrothgar that I finally took a moment for myself. I stood there, gazing over the region atop the tallest mountain in the land thinking of my travels. I’d already ventured through several of the best dungeons Bethesda has ever made, looted relics from antiquated treasure chests, fiercely battled dragons and even visited a freezing Norse castle. But it wasn’t until this particular moment where from my rugged snowy perspective it hit me that Skyrim is a game that takes its time to show you all of it's riches. It’s an utterly fantastic experience that’s marred by only a few missteps."

Also feel free to ask me any questions you like about Skyrim, I'd love to talk about it.

How does it feel compared to Fallout 3/New Vegas? I hated the leveling in Oblivion like everyone else, and Bethesda said they were making it more like Fallout 3. Does Skyrim play like a fantasy themed Fallout 3 in general?

Does it have a ton of extra/side content like the previous games? Fallout was a ~10 hour game with (to me) 50+ hours of side goodness. I hope Skyrim has an absurd amount of side stuff...

Is it buggy like typical Bethesda games?

Did you like the previous Bethesda games? Based on that, did you enjoy Skyrim a lot?

Compare Skyrim to other GREAT RPG's you've played (PS:T, BG, etc) and tell us how it stacks up compared to the truly great RPG's, please.

Can you just tell us know if they hype is warranted (ie. do you love the game), pretty please?

Is the screwy enemy leveling a little less...screwy vs Oblivion? Sometimes, you just wanted to lay absolute waste as a high level character. Never really got that chance in Oblivion, at least not to a satisfactory degree.

How does it compare to VANILLA oblivion (no mods)? What system do you have it for? Anything annoying like those damn oblivion gates?

If I didn't like Oblivion (at all) should I give this one a shot? I love RPGs but there was just something off about Oblivion. To be honest it's been so long that I can't even remember what I disliked.

I've got Fallout 3 and plan to give it a shot after I finished Uncharted.

I'll second this question. I bought Oblivion when it was new but never got into it. I'm going to stay away from it for now and probably borrow it from a friend down the road...unless it's absolutely amazing and I need to play it sooner!

does it suffer from the same issues as Oblivion especially loot wise..

once you got Deadric stuff which was very quickly... you had nothing gear wise to look forward to..

they really need a gear generator ala Diablo to help keep people exploring and questing etc..

What I didn't like about the loot in Oblivion was that there really wasn't any unique weapons that you couldn't just make better versions of by enchanting regular weapons.

At least that's what I remember.

yeah. You could get Deadric stuff pretty fast. Also you can find great items just by wondering around in unusual places.

I found a chick at the end of a cave that was a pain to kill. but she had a great set of weapons and armor.

I'm wondering how similar it is to Morrowind. Aside from gameplay (ex: sword fighting...miss miss miss miss hit miss miss miss miss hit) and graphics, it always felt like a better game.

How buggy is it compared to Oblivion and Fallout 3 (at launch)?

I hope it's the best RPG that came out in the past 5+ years.

If not, I hope it's one of the best RPGs that came out in the past 2 years.

If not, I hope it's a great RPG.

If not, I hope it's a good RPG.

If not, I'm gonna be sad.

Like posted above, How does the World and Quest systems compare to Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I never finished Oblivion because I would just get so lost as to what I was supposed to be doing. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were still very open worlds, but their quest system and tracking helped keep you on track with your quests and where you needed to go next.

Combat, is there a VATS type mode for casting or Melee attacks?

Umbra. Sucked if you killed and looted her at a low level, giving you weak weapons (relative to what they would be at a high level) that wouldn't be useful beyond a couple/few levels. Essentially wastes what should be incredibly powerful stuff. Another drawback of dynamic enemy leveling.

This is one generally ruined vanilla Oblivion for me. I realize it was also part of Morrowind but honestly it didn't feel so obvious. I realize Skyrim will do it but I'm optimistic that they made it less ridiculous, i.e beating the game at level 1.

Yeah, I see nothing wrong with the concept...but it can't just apply to ALL enemies. As you mention, it allows you to beat the game on level 1. Or never lets you "feel" like your character has become powerful -- what when even roadside bandits have all glass weapons and armor.

The idea just needs better implementation.
- Bandits could be a pack of mixed difficulty enemies.
- Some unique enemies (and their loot) should be static. There's no reason anyone under level 20 (maybe 30) should be able to kill Umbra.
- City guards could be dynamic up to a point, with the Imperial Palace Guards being the most difficult, etc...

Also, it was stupid when allies didn't level up. City guards had their shit handed to them quick if you didn't start tackling Oblivion gates until level 20+.

I guess the Skyrim enemy leveling is supposed to be closer to Fallout 3. I never played that game though.

I third this as well. I loved MW, hated Oblivion, loved FO3.

What if we hated both Oblivion and Fallout 3? How does Skyrim compare to both of them? Is the storyline better? Combat?
