I have tried googling this 3 different ways and searched this forum, so if its been answered before... Sorry.
I use my accomplice as a MULE. But of late, she is one shotting animals and getting in my way on multiple skele fights. Its early in the game. I just turned 7.
I just went into some tomb with her and before I could "Fave switch" from my mace to bow she "offed" 3 of the 5 skele's!!!!!
She once killed a bandit leader while I was running up the tower to get to the bridge to meet him hand to hand. I had NO idea where she dropped him and it took me 5 minutes of scouting to find the corpse....
Two questions.
When your accomplice kills something do you get experiance? Do you get less?
And, is there a SANE way to corral her? I thought about taking away her weaps and making her a female Mike Tyson. On my way to the first Grey Beard encounter. Got a RANDO dragon encounter. SUHWEET. It was about a few feet south of a Giants camp.
Apparently she is wild and WOOLY with her arrows as the giants ALWAYS come over to help. And I welcome that. They are with us at first and then suddenlly they turn on me so I can ONLY guess she plunked them with an errant arrow shot. I know I have hit them accidently with my MACE and the next cut scene is me cartwheeling thru the air. So epic.

I DO LOVE THIS GAME. Such great stuff.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The short answer is that you do not get experience when a companion takes or does damage.

I've killed a couple of companions by accident since I'm a destruction mage, and I like to use Fireball.

Hey what you need to do is command her to wait for you once you enter a cave or whatever. Then clear the cave. Then go back to the beginning of the cave and tell her to follow you again.

Well, even with the 1.4 patch, my game is a crashy mess. Bethesda needs to step up their quality standards or I'm done with them.

If you think this game is unstable you really should thank all of your lucky stars you never had to try playing Daggerfall, also by Bethesda, on the PC. It was total sh*t from a bug perspective.

The latest patch... REALLY messed with my game.

SOME small spoilers below (maybe)













Lydia fights on occasion now. She seems confused as to what weap to use.
AX Bow Ax Bow Ax Bow.
Yes, going into a "Dungeon" I tell her STAY and use her like a mule (Thanks above). Clear out a section, go back, pick her up, loot, give her stuff, repeat.
I was in the "Night Dreams" quest. The stupid Priest never went up the stairs in the tower. He stops 2/3rds of the way. Search the internet. NO fixes for XBOX. All PC console commands. What did I do? Tried walking into him... Pushing...Running into him. No luck. So I fought him. Pounded him with my mace up 3 or 4 steps. Till he took a knee FURIOUSLY tap A at that point. Apparently he gives me the key then and the quest continues. So if you are stuck there. Try that. DONT KILL HIM (Not sure if you can) just let him take a knee. Tap A.
Then just last night. Diplomatic Immunity quest.
DONT JUSTTAKE THE EVIDENCE. Read it then and there, then take it. That is what triggers the last 3 guards to show up who have a key you need. 30 minutes of my life wasted as I thought that was the issue BUT you have to read it in a certain place. REALLY????????
And then..... I left Lydia at the stables for this quest. Go through the pains of the above issue, complete it, get the key, and go through the sewer tunnel. ICE troll. Nice...........There are people there fighting it already. I join the fracass. 2 people die and I defeat the troll. ONE OF THE DEAD.... Lydia.
Really, where the HELL did she come from. So reload, try again. She dies every time. Close quarter combat sems NOT to become her LOL.

SO I ran like a little BEECH. She pops out of the tunnel entrance to join me.
But really, what the hell is she doing there????
Sigh............... Come on Bethesda, Help your fan base. Still love the game, but after this weekend, a little less.

The latest patch... REALLY messed with my game.

And horses are still useless .

I have (or I had) Shadowmere following me around - every time I fast travel he would show up.

So last night I fast travel to Dawnstar Sanctuary and he shows up beside me. I go inside to "talk" to the Dark Mother to start up a new quest. I come outside, and Shadowmere is laying tits up, apparently killed by the circling Elder Dragon above me . I love this game!

Man that does suck.
I ran home at lunch time.... Really..... Lydia has lost focus. Its almost like they broke her range sensor. She spends more time posturing and flexing than actual killing.
Some switch from early on where I would be running up to a wolf, ready to smash its skull with my mace when PLINK. Lydia offed him with an arrow.
I would turn around and scream "REALLY?".
Didnt stop her though. so I took away her bow. I would SPRINT ahead of her. Apparently she was timid of taking the short-cuts I did.
I would have plenty of time to kill the wolves befor she got there.

Of course there was that time I met my first troll.. "Come on, get here... HURRY HURRY where the hell are you????".

I buy the spell off the girl at the bridge.... Needs 134 mana to cast. Being a Warrior..... All my points went into Health and Stamina. I use FIRE a little... And wanted to expand my world.

After leaving there and adventuring elsewhere. I had an idea. I put a perk point into "Illusion". The first tier.. Where it reads "Illusion spells cost half as much Magika" or something like that.
Fast travel to the school.... Still 134???? Am I doing something wrong?


AND... ANY WAY to get speech up faster... Selling dozens of boots AINT doing it for me LOL..

There is a great way to get speech up. There is a guy at the meadery in Riften that you can constantly persuade and increase your speech. I maxed my Speech out to 100 one night by doing this.

2 nights ago, I popped open a Guinness.... Kissed wifey g'nite as she had a hard day.
And Smithyed and Alchemied for over 3 hours.....

If I had Hendrix on my Ipod and BEADED curtains in my alchemy lab (in game); THAT would have made it perfect.

This game is a LIFE stealer. Driving home I actually plan what I want to work on. Tomorrow... Enchanting night.

New question. Just turned 17 last night. Doing SO many side missions. Crafting. Having a FANTASTIC time. Met two dragons over the course of the evening.
NOW, both times I have had Lydia with me. When I am in caves... I leave her at strategic points and go do my stuff... Solo. I then drag her up to be my mule.
These last 2 Dragons; obviously outside, so Lydia is with me, and not a challenge.
Am I doing too many side missions and not enough main? My only deaths are coming at my fumbling fingers on the "Favorites" function.

It is wrong, and it doesn't change. Dragons are very easy to kill in this game basically from day 1 using ranged attacks, particularly if they spend any time indisposed with other enemies. But, even if they don't, when they land just run briefly out of range and then throw some arrows into them (or fire balls or whatever). The only way I was able to kill a troll was by finding a high ground he could not quite get to, but that I could quickly leave (so that he could get to me), which would encourage him to then try and get me, but then I'd just get out of reach again.

I made good use of Lydia as I played but letting her take the beatings as I sat behind with magic.

*SMALL SPOILER*
One of the final dragon boss fights is the only dragon of any real difficulty but even then not that bad. They didn't make the dragons nearly difficult enough in the game. As great a game overall as I think it is, there were some balancing and progression issues in it when it shipped. This may be one of the reason overall I frankly prefer the Fallout series, which are about as flawless as I've seen a game be.

Meh, if you have a few destruction spells, both trolls and dragons are easy.

Just flames/firebolt/fireball trolls - 2 or 3 fireballs will kill them. The key is to not let them regenerate.

Level up to adept destruction, and get fireball and ice storm, and you can kill any dragon relatively easily. You just need to maintain your magika pool. Use fireball on the frost dragons, and ice storm on the fire dragons.

Dragons SHOULD the the hardest. By far.
Doppel, that is MY tactic for trolls. On the even ground, face to face they usually kill Lydia. They DO have a short attention span though as you note. I may try courge this weekend. Just not sure If I want them to have EXTREE health LOL.

Oops I said troll but meant ogre !! Ogres are bigger and tougher than trolls...and still harder than dragons!

New update LOL. Good weekend. Some decent play time in. That is, between redoing master bedroom. (MAN, I ain't 35 ANYMORE LOL) Pullinng down wall-paper SUCKS.

Ok, met another Dragon. I am 19 seasons now (Level 19). And ONCE again, I told Lydia to "Stay" too close to the action. If she sees something, she's all in.
SO I tell her to stay... Yawn, go in and kill the Dragon. She got involved and apparently a stray shot with her arrow plunked a giant. Enter HILARIOUS cut scene here.
When do THEY become NOT a threat? Not that I will go and take them down but again; I can go a good 3 minute fight with a DRAGON, WIN, but get one clubbed by a giant.

Side note. My son was over, and he bought me the game for my Xbox. I told him I was exchanging it for PC version. He explained his logic. I had BIG shoulder surgery late November and couldnt put my arm on the desk for WASD action. He said grab a controller..... Hands in lap..... You are playing the day after Christmas.
AT THE TIME SOUNDED GOOD. Read my early struggles as Xbox was mostly for my sports games.

Yesterday he tells me, OH yeah, I downloaded a MOD to make dragons harder.
HE HAS PC version.

Giants get pretty easy around level 30. You could probably start fighting them around 25 if you have some sweet armor/weapons/magic. I used to just use the Fus Ro Dah shout then beat the piss out of them

Maybe, which leads me to my second correction. It is giants I had the problem with, the big guys who have the two woolly mammoths. I found them more difficult than dragons.

That perk you took only made *novice* Illusion spells cost half as much, not all Illusion spells. I'm not sure, because I never use it, but that probably means Fear is not a novice spell.
