everyone who has played 20+ hours.

rating? out of 10.

10/10

I have played for 40 hours and am at level 41.

It is the best RPG I have ever played. The combat is much more exciting, the dialog is as interesting as ever and the graphics are good enough to get the job done while being impressive considering it is DX 9 and it is very similar to the Oblivion engine. Draw distance is the best thing about the engine.

The leveling system works perfectly, think of it as a world that is aware of your level without it being too obvious. At every level you will find easy enemies and ones that can kill you easily.

I'm sure everyone knows about the free training you can get from friends/followers. Honestly the very first trick my wife and I figured out in Riverwood with Feldon.

One great trick I've seen (and used) was buying the Whiterun house for "free". Making that $5K was a hassle and is better spent on leather and iron for improving smithing. I ended up spending much of that money on tricking out the house anyway.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but if you want to level up your smithing to 100 very quickly, make a bunch of iron daggers. I would make my rounds through all the blacksmiths in Skyrim, purchasing up all their iron ingots and ore along with the same amount of leather strips. I would make a bunch of daggers and watch my levels jump up in seconds. Sell the daggers (you don't get much unless you enchant them) and repeat.

It's an exploit, sure, but legitimate nonetheless. I'm now wearing a nice suit of Dragonplate armor.

That works insanely well. I didn't have much time to collect supplies, but I upped my smithing by about 30 levels. Awesome.

55 hours in, only level 33, just got the 100 locations discovered achievement, love this game...

I foresee a 100+ hour save.

I have a question, and I am sure it will make me look really dumb. I haven't played very much, but I was messing around and went into 3rd person view. I noticed I have a few arrows stuck in me. How do I get rid of them? Sorry for the stupid question.

AFAIK they disappear when you sleep or wait. Could be wrong tho. Elder scrolls have always been first person, 3rd person isnt really that good IMHO and the arrows thing is one reason why. In first person you cant see them at least

My end table containing over 500lbs of books disagrees

/hoardhoardhoard

Hmmm, theoretically, you could use this to your advantage.

There is a quest called "blood on the ice", that can glitch. You could build a wall of books in front of the murderer's door so he cannot disappear.

Kazaam, I don't know if I have any particular advice for a Mage but I'll give it a shot. I recently helped a good friend get started and here are some of the tips I gave him.

- After Riverwood, head to Whiterun to do the main story's quests and then head over to The College of Winterhold. Talk to various people in Riverwood and Whiterun, especially at the Inns, and someone will give you a quest to visit the college. Once there you can join the college and run that entire quest chain--the loot is great and you get some really awesome stuff.

- Once you're done with the college and begin doing whatever you feel, don't fast travel, use a carriage or ride a horse. It sounds nuts, I know, but doing any of these looses the opportunity of serendipity. There is SO MUCH content sprinkled throughout Skyrim and doing any of those forfeits the opportunity of exploration and discovery. Even a horse just gets in the way of it all.

- Get good at using the Ward spell.

- If you're going to be evil, get good at lockpicking and sneaking because you can get wealthy very quickly by sneaking into peoples homes, especially if you visit the rich city of Solitude. Heck, even pickpocketing is super-rewarding in terms of gold.

- Invest in Enchanting very early on. Once you reach 100 you can enchant an item with two abilities! But if you're interested in leveling Enchanting quickly just use soul gems (sold or found all over the world). Plus the trainers at the College are a REALLY great source too. Just purchase some empty soul gems and then head out questing with Soul Trap to kill enemies and fill the gems. Until you’re level 100, just use crappy items and the smallest soul gems.

Oh and one more thing, anything you double-enchant will sell for considerably more!

-If you’re running through the wilderness and you see an icon resembling a dragon appear on your compass--check it out. There be a dragon ahead matey! ALSO, there will be a new Shout for you to learn as well, PLUS a treasure chest with some awesome loot.

- Keep in mind Magic skills only gain experience if an enemy is around, even restoration spells

- If you have a ton of stuff to sell, I found the Blacksmith (two vendors) and general goods guy in Whiterun to be the most efficient way of selling things. Though the vendors have a finite amount of money, just wait for 48 hours and their pool will be replenished. This is how I got rid of 600lbs of dragon bones and scales.

- There are only two people in the world who will buy stolen stuff (Winterhold/Riften), however if you get your speech skill high enough any vendor will buy stolen goods.

- Last and most importantly, explore the world as you please. These are mere suggesting, and Skyrim is probably the most adaptive worlds every created. Whatever direction you decide to go at the crossroads, you're guaranteed to have a great time.

Not true, You just have to use the spell in a meaningful way. I have leveled up my skill by using muffle while just walking around town. Heal will only level up your skill if you are actually damaged.

Also not true. I know of 3 right now. Winterhold, Riften, and Whiterun.

100% agree

To add to the above list, very first thing after the intro at Helgen, activate the mage stone on your way to Riverwood.

Also not true. I know of 3 right now. Winterhold, Riften, and Whiterun.

Where can I find these people? I've accumulated so much stolen stuff (I have a problem) that I'd love to turn in for some gold. I didn't think there was any way to get rid of it, so I've created a makeshift dump in Whiterun behind one of the houses. Whenever I go through my house and do an inventory clean-out, I dump all my stolen/worthless junk in one spot. Adds a touch of realism, as every town has at least one house with nothing but junk all over the property.

There is Mallus in whiterun, tomalia in riften, Enthir in the mage guild, Gulum-Ei in Solitude just to think of a few. Google says there are 9 total.

Man, I've been all over Whiterun and I can't believe I haven't come across Mallus yet.

Edit: I assume I have to unlock the fences with quests?

Do improved items ever drop? I run across ebony bows occasionally (or see them at vendors), but I didn't develop that side of the smithing tree since I use light armor, so I can't improve them to ledendary.
