I wonder how long until there are more 120hz@4k tv's. this is the first one i have seen and im pretty sure it uses LG oled panels. Tempting if i wasnt so paranoid about breaking things i see LG has 8k@60hz coming out soon. (which doesnt interest me except for the 3d enabled on all 8k tv's @ 4k

Yeah. 120hz is essentially a HDMI 2.1 feature (some TV's already supported it, but those typically had a display port or DVI connector). What you really want though are TV's with VRR (essentially freesync) support as well. This is an optional part of the HDMI 2.1 spec, so not all will support it (one of the stupidiest things that the HDMI consortium could do was allow for "optional" features in the spec because now we need to not only know that it is HDMI 2.1, but also HDMI 2.1 with VRR, or HDMI 2.1 with eARC+VRR+.....).

I think most mid-to-highend range panels will have VRR support from LG and Samsung (in the 2019 lineup). I don't think anyone else has HDMI 2.1 support this year. I wish LG would just bite the bullet and support HDR10+ spec, but they want to go it alone with Dolby Vision forcing yet another war in which consumers are the ones who get screwed when they don't know why this particular movie won't working with their brand new TV...

Nice, 4K @ 120Hz? What video cards support that? Are there DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 converter boxes yet that will do that, on existing Pascal/Turing or Polaris/Vega/Navi cards? (Club3D, I'm looking towards you.)

You can give up on HDMI 2.1 on Navi, it is 2.0b. Best we can hope for is Nvidia to release a card in response to Navi which has HDMI 2.1 (not that I expect that to happen since the high end Navi seems like it can barely compete with the 2060 and 2070, let alone the 2070ti, 2080, or 2080ti).

Don't expect to see displayport to HDMI 2.1 converters anytime soon either. There is a bandwidth difference, which I suspect will prevent anything from being licensed properly to be called HDMI 2.1 (displayport 1.4 on supports ~32Gbps, HDMI 2.1 is 48Gbps bandwidth).

"Running at 4K at 144Hz over DisplayPort 1.4b will work only if the image is being transmitted at 4:2:2. In theory, HDMI 2.1 could solve this problem when it comes out sometime later this year, though proof of that concept remains to be seen. The compromise for now, then, is that even if the monitor supports a 144Hz rate, you should be running at 4K at a maximum of 120Hz, which maintains your 4:4:4 subsampling and is still plenty smooth."

and 2x2080Ti with nvbridge to get 144+ on half regular games @ 4k.. interesting to me tho. i usually turn off shadows and different things in a game so i wonder if i can do 4k@120hz with 2080ti and a 2019 samsun q900 dreaming tho because i wont spend 2000$ on a tv unless i put it in a room with out child access ;O

Currently i game 1440p@144hz but excited to jump one more step up and pass this nu8000 to my boy.

Very exciting as im obsseessed with PC monitor technology and the 8k displays coming out are going to need something to push them. dual dp1.4 sounds OK too
