SL-K8AN2E-GR Sound problems

I just setup a system for a friend who doent have time, and used the soltek board because of the features/price ration. I cant seem to get the sound working. I have tried both the nvidia unified drivers and the drivers from soltek's website, both produce the same results. I get a faint background music if I plug into the middle jack but the only way I can hear it at all is if I have it full power and the room is quiet, otherwise I dont even know it is on. I hear sound through my sub and satelites (an old 2.1 which works on my other puter). Is there something special I need to do? There are no exclamation points in device manager and everything seems installed. This is a fresh install of winxp home. Anybody else see problems like this?



Soltek board
A64 3000+
1 GB crucial ram
9600xt (he doesnt game much and was trying to save some money)
Seagate 160gb sata drive.

I realize this thread is old, but I just built a system based on the board and am having the exact same problem! When I use the audio out on the mobo, I get audio but it is very faint. I then tried the case line out (that taps into the pins on the mobo), and I get one channel loud and clear, but not the other.

This is driving me crazy! Were you able to resolve this? If so, how?

strange, when I used my onboard audio for about a month, I had no such problems... same mobo of course.

can't help there...

Haven't used that board but when encountering audio problems on non Soundstorm nV chipset based boards that use the ALC65X CODEC switching to the Reatek drivers always resolved them. It may not resolve your problem but it is a good place to start

Well, I figured it out. Seems you can't use the front and back panel inputs at the same time with this board (unless there's something else I'm missing). I removed the leads from the audio connection block on the mobo, replaced the jumpers, now the sound from the back panel works like a champ.

For good measure, I downloaded the latest AC97 codecs while I was at it.
