As long as by 'hate the US' you mean truly despise the constitution and freedoms and not some ignorant 'with us or against us' fascist definition or Ann Coulter tripe about blindly supporting a corrupted government.

Hey you know what ? Let's just give them the billion in extortion money. Then after they get their money we don't have to fund AA or any other pity based handout programs because they have been officially compensated for their "suffering". This way the whining and moaning can stop and people won't have to feel guilty anymore. God only knows that black folk are the only group of people who have suffered in this country right ? Of course let's not mention that they have the highest standard of living, education, health care and more rights then other black folk across the globe because they live in this great nation of ours.

I would add that anyone that accepted reparations would also have to renounce their US citizenship and move back to the country their DNA shows that they orginally came from.

On that condition, I might support reparations. I wonder how many would take the money on that condition?

What we need is more national recognition of the impact of slavery. Even a billion dollars after legal fees would leave a pittance for each black person in America. Most Americans cannot appreciate the hardships imposed upon slaves here and without such an historical reference how can they really understand black culture today? Maybe, they don't want to understand how others think and feel....

But, if they are going in this direction, I want reparations for the work of my Jewish grandfather in a sweat shop in Hoboken, N.J. in the '20s and '30s. My wife thinks this is a good idea for the Irish as well. They were treated like dirt around the turn of the century, but, of course, that was justifiable.

There is a link. Many people are wealthy today (esp. in the South) because of the wealth their grandfather created. I'm not talking about billionaires, i'm talking about middle class people who happened to be land owners. Blacks, until very late, couldn't own land. They couldn't go to school (whereas Jews could). Had the grandfathers of the gang banging blacks today been educated free men holding property, do you think they would still be gang banging blacks?

I attended a KKK rally in 1966 in N.C. and I can attest it was down right scary. I went with two other Yankee Jocks and we yelled at the Nazis with their German Shepherd dogs and State Police backups with shotguns and sticks. I'll never forget those days and how inhumanely white Southerners treated people of color. The KKK also ranted on at the rally about Jews and Catholics. Since one of my buddies was a N.Y. I'm still amazed we didn't get arrested or bitten or beaten up. I was pretty stupid back in those days.

Even though you aren't black you would have been treated like a black most likely in the Old South. Fortunately, prejudice is much less open today, though it still exists in too many quarters.

Anyway, read some of Kyle Onstott's books, or some James Baldwin, etc. to get a feeling for slavery. Slavery is the blackest chapter in America's history. If I thought the money could be rationally distributed and there was actually something worth distributing I'd support reparations. I do support it in principle, but as a practical matter I can't see it working for Blacks.

What does this have to do with the here and now ? There are opportunities available for all peoples today and it's not like anyone is holding them back. I have witness and heard stories of countless of people working their way up from nothing to something. The fact is that opportunity is there and the past is the past. No one alive here in this country is a slave or being prevented from going to school and from taking advantage of a the "system" in this nation. Hell even illegal immigrants who come to this country with nothing but the clothes on their backs have a chance to make it in this country. Sorry but this is just more whining and extortion in order to get a free ride.

P.S. Oh and what about the blacks who were never slaves or the black who were slave owners ( yes there were black slave owners in this country ! ) or other free blacks who help to captured and return other blacks ? Should their decedents be made to pay as well ? What about the white people who provided comfort and aid to runaway slaves in their homes or who were killed because of their anti-slavery stances ? Shouldn't their decedents be compensated for their time and effort as well ?
