I am not sure if this is the proper area because I am not sure what the cause of my problem is. However, it is a windows related issue so I thought I would start here.
My desktop is running Windows 7 Professional. Every time I leave for something (class, food, or whatever) I put my computer to sleep because there is not point in it running while I am away. When I return I usually wake it up by pressing a key on the keyboard and it comes to life in usually 2-3 seconds (always faster than my monitor can turn on). Occasionally (becoming more frequent) it does not wake up when I press the keyboard. So if I try moving the mouse and nothing happens, I press the power button. When I do this, the lights and fans all start and shut off after about 1.5 seconds. Then about 3 seconds later, it all starts up. It will start up and run without stopping, but it does not output anything to my monitor for about two minutes at which point it runs through the whole start up (shows the motherboard screen and acts like I was starting it from shut down) and lets me log in, but has everything right where I left it (all programs still open). Is there any known cause for this or fix? The average time asleep is two hours, but I have had this problem with it being asleep for only an hour and had it work fine after being asleep for more than twelve.
